Known for his role in the popular drama “Itaewon Class,” Yoo Jae Myung is currently facing what could be the most challenging period in his career.
Yoo Jae Myung, born in 1973, finds himself entangled in a series of unfortunate events that threaten to disrupt not one but four of his projects. What makes this astonishing is that the trouble is primarily caused by controversies involving his co-stars.
Four of his promising projects have been on the brink of uncertainty. Yoo Jae Myung has been forced to shoulder the consequences of his co-stars’ controversies, leaving many netizens to call him one of the unluckiest actors.
Two of Yoo Jae Myung’s works star Lee Sun Kyun, best known for his role in the Academy Award-winning film “Parasite.” “The Land of Happiness,” wrapped up filming in 2022 and was originally slated for a 2023 release. However, Lee Sun Kyun’s drug use allegations have put the release of this film in jeopardy.
Additionally, Yoo Jae Myung is co-starring with Lee Sun Kyun in another film titled “No Way Out.” Filming only started on October 16th. Sadly, just four days later, Lee Sun Kyun’s drug controversy forced a temporary halt in production. Theoretically, replacing Lee Sun Kyun with another actor is possible, but financial complications could further delay “No Way Out.”
Yoo Jae Myung also faced difficulties in his collaboration with Kwak Do Won in the 2020 film “Firefighter.” Fast forward to September 2022, Kwak Do Won found himself embroiled in a series of scandals, from drunk driving to physical assault, which negatively impacted the movie and its cast, including Yoo Jae Myung.
This chain of events has left “Firefighter” without a release schedule, even though filming wrapped up three years ago, leading industry insiders to predict that it may have been indefinitely shelved.
Yoo Jae Myung’s bad luck doesn’t end there. In 2021, he worked with Kim Dong Hee in the film “Season of You and Me.” Shortly after, Kim Dong Hee admitted to instances of school violence, prompting strong public criticism. “Season of You and Me” remains in limbo, despite completing filming two years ago, sharing a fate similar to “Firefighter.”
Yoo Jae Myung’s journey in the entertainment industry began in 2001, but it wasn’t until 2015 that he truly captured the hearts of viewers with his role in “Reply 1988.” Since then, he’s continued to leave his mark with roles in popular series such as “Strong Woman Do Bong Soon” and “Itaewon Class.”
