Who is V? 

V, whose full name is Kim Taehyung, was born on December 30, 1995. He is a member of famous K-pop boy group BTS, and holds the positions of vocalists, dancer, and visuals.

V’s Basic Info

V was born in Daegu, but later moved to Geochang, South Korea. He has a younger brother named Kim Jonggyu and a younger sister named Kim Eunjin.

V aspired to become a singer from as early as elementary school, and even took saxophone lessons in middle school to pursue his dreams. He became a trainee for Big Hit Entertainment (now Big Hit Music) after passing an audition in Daegu. 

After graduating from Korean Arts High School in 2014, V enrolled in Global Cyber University and got a degree in Broadcasting and Entertainment in 2020. He is currently studying his master degree in Advertising and Media at Hanyang Cyber University.

• BTS

V debuted with BTS on June 13, 2013, and has since released an extensive discography with the group. V got his first credit as a composer via the song “Hold My Tight” in BTS’s album “The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Part 1”, and has since participated in lyrics writing and composition of various other sóng. 

Under the group’s name, V also released 3 solo songs titled  “Stigma”, “Singularity”, and “Inner Child” in 2016, 2018, and 2020, respectively.

• Solo

In 2016, V made his acting debut with a supporting role in the 2016 K-drama “Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth” and contributed the OST “”It’s Definitely You”.

In 2019, V dropped his first full solo track outside of BTS, “Scenery” – which is composed and written by himself, on Soundcloud. He later released his 1st English solo song, “Winter Bear”, through the same platform. 

Several other songs released by V, including the “Our Beloved Summer” OST “Christmas Tree”, the “Itaewon Class” soundtrack “Sweet Night” and the solo track “Snow Flower”, among others, also drew huge attention. 

In September 2023, V made his official debut as a solo artist with the mini album “Layover”. 

The male idol was also announced as an ambassador for luxury designer house Celine in 2023. He became the brand ambassador for Cartier in July of the same year. 

On December 11, 2024, V began his military service as an active soldier.

Additional facts about V 

V was a “Secret member” of BTS, as he has been in the lineup for a long time, but was kept “hidden” until the time around the group’s debut. 

He used to post pictures with the pseudo “Vante”, a combination of V – his stage name and Ante from his favorite photographer Ante Badzim.

With this husky voice, V almost debuted as a rapper in BTS rather than a vocalist. He is into classical and jazz music, is the pickiest eater in BTS, and can speak fluent Korean and Japanese, as well as basic English.

Throughout his career, V has made various donations to his old schools and educational foundation. 

Health Issue

In October 2018, during the Paris concert of BTS’s “Love Yourself World Tour”, V faced difficulty singing due to an illness, and had to abstain from some of his parts during the concert.

In October 2021, V had to abstain from choreography during BTS’s “Permission to Dance on Stage” concerts due to a calf injury and would remain seated while singing.

Dating Rumor

V’s dating rumor with BLACKPINK’s Jennie: In 2022, various alleged “leaked photos” of V and BLACKPINK’s Jennie were spreaded through online communities and SNS, sparking dating rumors between the two. Later on, the “couple” was allegedly spotted together on a “Paris date”, dating fuel to the ongoing rumors. However, while V and Jennie’s side both remain silent throughout this, there have been reports of the two breaking up.
