Yang Hyun Suk insists on the fairness of the first trial’s ruling, prosecution applies Han Seo Hee and B.I’s father as witnesses
The prosecution applied to call Han Seo Hee and B.I’s father as witnesses in Yang Hyun Suk’s threatening charge appeal trial.
The first appeal trial of Yang Hyun Suk on charges of violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Crimes (retaliatory threats) was held at the Seoul Central District Court in Seocho-gu, Seoul on April 12th.
Yang Hyun Suk was put on trial on charges of threatening Han Seo Hee to cover up the investigation into the drug purchases of former iKON member B.I (real name Kim Han Bin).
At the trial, the prosecution said, “Han Seo Hee’s statement is consistent in major parts”, adding “The contents of her statement match objective evidence, such as cell phone forensics.”
On the other hand, Yang Hyun Suk’s side said, “The first trial’s judgment was extremely fair”, emphasizing that “Testimonies were taken about six times throughout several months. The recorded conversation was also over 500 pages long. The first trial’s judge would not have dismissed the recording as unimportant and lacking credibility based on only a few specific parts.”
In addition, they insisted on the legitimacy of the original trial, saying “The ruling was that it is difficult to believe Han Seo Hee’s testimony when considering her prior statement, her statement when meeting the defendant, and her statement thereafter”, adding “The Supreme Court’s ruling is in exact accordance with the law. They have thoroughly examined whether there is any indirect circumstantial evidence.”
In addition, the judge questioned why Kim Han Bin’s father left for overseas early in the morning on the day he met and talked with Yang Hyun Suk and Han Seo Hee. Therefore, the prosecution expressed their intention to apply Kim Han Bin’s father as a witness together with Han Seo Hee.
In this regard, Yang Hyun Suk’s lawyer said, “I don’t understand the meaning of summoning Han Seo Hee again. It’s strange to talk about things that were not discussed in the first trial”, adding “Han Seo Hee is currently imprisoned for drug crimes. During the first trial of this case, she took drugs again. I don’t think there is much significance in calling someone who shows no respect for the law and disregards the court and has no self-control to talk again.”
Han Seo Hee reported B.I’s drug use during a police investigation in the past but later reversed her statement. Later in 2019, Han Seo Hee claimed of being pressured by Yang Hyun Suk and YG during the process of reversing her statement through the Anti-Corruption & Civil Rights Commission.
Meanwhile, Yang Hyun Suk’s second appeal trial will take place on May 24th.
