Will Rowoon Be Able To Stand Tall As An Actor After Leaving SF9 With Upcoming Drama ‘The Matchmakers’?

Rowoon is focusing on solidifying his position as an actor instead of an idol after his departure from SF9

From an “acting idol”, Rowoon recently announced a new start by withdrawing from the idol group SF9 and carrying out nonstop acting activities. Within this year alone, he has greeted viewers with two consecutive dramas. Following his appearance in “Destined With You” as Jang Shin-yu, Rowoon is returning to the small screen through “The Matchmakers”, which will premiere on October 30th.

Rowoon debuted as a member of SF9 in 2016 and has been working both as an idol and an actor. After making his face and name known to the public through various impressive works, such as “Extraordinary You”, “The King’s Affection”, and “Tomorrow”, Rowoon decided to become a “full-time” actor by withdrawing from SF9 in September and putting an end to his idol career.

The fantasy romance “Destined With You”, starring Rowoon as the male lead, ended recently on the 12th. Through this drama, fans were able to see Rowoon’s heart-fluttering acting as a ‘romance master’. Although the rating performance was somewhat disappointing as it remained in the 2% range and ended at only 3.1%, Rowoon received favorable reviews for his acting and was not blamed for the sluggish viewership this time. However, the public will show a different gaze if the actor’s upcoming projects continue to fail.

Above all, this is the time for Rowoon to prove himself to make a complete transformation from an idol to an actor, and it all depends on whether his next work “The Matchmakers” will succeed. Playing the first comedy in his filmography, Rowoon plans to show a new aspect of himself. The actor said, “I think comedy is the most difficult genre and I’ve always wanted to try it”.

Despite the new challenge, the fact that “The Matchmakers” also has historical materials is also an advantage for Rowoon. Previously, he starred in “The King’s Affection” with Park Eun-bin and earned various remarkable achievements, such as double-digit ratings and Best New Actor at the 2021 KBS Drama Awards. Therefore, viewers are also looking forward to his second historical attempt.

Attention is on the performance of “The Matchmakers” to see whether Rowoon will successfully grow into a complete actor.
