Kim Seon-ho X Jisoo, K-drama actors selected by global fandom (Seoul Drama Awards)

Kim Seon-ho, Jisoo, Lim Young-woong and more will receive awards at the Seoul Drama Awards 2022.

On September 8th, the Seoul Drama Awards Organizing Committee (Chairman Kim Eui-chul) and Neowiz announced the winners of this year’s “Hallyu Drama Male and Female Actor Award”, “OST Award” and “Asia Star Award” selected by Hallyu fans around the world.

Actor Kim Seon-ho (tvN’s “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha“) won the Male Actor Award in the Hallyu drama category with more than half of the votes (53.4%). “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” starring Kim Seon-ho not only caused the Hometown syndrome in Korea, but also promoted K-dramas’ status by ranking third in Netflix’s world rankings.

The Female Actor Award went to actress Jisoo (JTBC’s “Snowdrop“). Jisoo topped the list with 41.6% of the votes, and was evaluated for well playing the role of Eun Young-ro, a character with bright energy.

The OST Award, which awards the best OST among Hallyu dramas, will be given to singer Lim Young-woong for OST “Love Always Run Away” of KBS 2TV’s “Young Lady and Gentleman”. In particular, Lim Young-woong recorded an overwhelming vote rate of 59.53%. “Young Lady and Gentleman” set a 38.2% ratings record (based on Nielsen Korea) thanks to the passionate performance of the lead actors and the popularity of the OST sung by national singer Lim Young-woong.

The Asia Star Award, selected by 6 Asian countries/regions (Korea, China, Japan, Thailand, Philippines, Taiwan), belong to Kang Daniel from Korea (Disney+’s “Rookie Cops”, 45.00%), Wallace Chung from China (YOUKU’s “Because of Love”, 45.37%), Yagi Yusei from Japan (Mainichi Broadcasting System’s “My Beautiful Man”, 69.70%), Krit Amnuaydechkorn from Thailand (Nadao Bangkok’s “I Promised You the Moon”, 87.86%), Belle Mariano from Philippines (ABS-CBN Corporation’s “He’s into Her”, 62.34%) and Alice Ko from Taiwan (Three Phoenixes Production’s “Rainless Love in a Godless Land”, 38.17%).

This voting was held for a month in August through the voting app “Idol Champ” (co-developed by Neowiz and MBC Plus), which has 8 million fandom users around the world. The awards ceremony will be held live on KBS 2TV from 5 to 7 PM on September 22nd.

The Seoul Drama Awards is the world’s first drama-specialized global awards ceremony organized by Korea starting from 2006 for the unity of people around the world and the development of related industries through dramas. It is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Seoul Metropolitan Government, KBS, MBC, SBS, EBS and CBS.

The 17th Seoul Drama Awards this year will be held offline for the first time in 3 years since the COVID-19 pandemic. It includes various events such as the OST concert on September 17th, side events (GV screenings, etc.) on September 21st, the awards ceremony and celebration on September 22nd.
