Song Hye-kyo and Gong Yoo’s K-drama Boasts Production Budget of 80 Billion Won

80 billion Korean won will be used for a historical K-drama said to be featuring Song Hye-kyo and Gong Yoo.

According to OSEN’s investigation on the morning of April 25, screenwriter Noh Hee-kyung is working on a 20-24 episode K-drama set from the Korean War to the 1980s. Studio Dragon and Noh Hee-kyung’s agency are jointly producing the drama.

Notably, 2 top names in the K-drama industry – Song Hye-kyo and Gong Yoo, are reported to be “positively considering” their appearances in this K-drama.

The production cost per episode of this new work is estimated to be in the early 3 billion won (approx 2.1 million USD), so the total production budget is expected to reach the 80 billion won (approx. 58 million USD) mark. Currently, discussions are underway regarding the upcoming K-drama’s placement on OTT platforms.

Back in last year, Disney+ original series “Moving” spent over 50 billion won (approx 36 million USD) in production costs to release a total of 20 episodes.

Although it was of a scale rarely seen domestically, it garnered significant global success and love. It is speculated that Noh Hee-kyung’s new work, being a period drama with a long episode count, will see an increase in production costs, surpassing the scale of “Moving.”

However, as the script has not yet been finalized, there is still the possibility of changes. In response to this, Studio Dragon cautiously stated to OSEN, “Since it’s a project in the planning stage without a finalized script, the exact number of episodes and production budget are undecided.”
