Iconic K-drama sibling trios that leave a deep impression

There are plenty of iconic K-drama trios that are close friends. However, these trios bring a different thing to the table: familial love.

Reply 1988 (2015)

It is no exaggeration to say that “Reply 1988” is a legend in K-drama. And the trio of Sung siblings, including Sung Bo Ra, Sung Duk Sun, and Sung No Eul was no less legendary. Since their age gaps were small, this trio was always in the mood for bickering. However, they still shared a deep familial bond that can move the toughest heart.

Throughout the series, there were multiple memorable moments where these siblings showed their love. Duk Sun, for example, couldn’t stop herself from crying when she noticed her sister’s struggles during exams, and was willing to throw fists to defend her younger brother.

The trio was made up of vastly different personalities: the eldest sister Bo Ra was intelligent but grumpy, the middle child Duk Sun sucked at studying but could brighten everyone’s day, and the youngest brother No Eul was meek and doted on by everyone. It has been almost 7 years since “Reply 1988” was released, but the Sung siblings will forever remain iconic.

Mother of Mine (2019)

Lasting a whopping 108 episodes, this KBS drama revolved around the Kang sisters and their mother, who sold ox bone soup (seolleongtang). Their hilarious relationships and interactions made for an iconic K-drama with viewership ratings surpassing 30%.

The three Kang sisters Mi Sun, Mi Ri, and Mi Hye have completely different personalities and face different problems in their lives. But such differences, including the fact that Mi Ri is not the biological daughter of their mother, don’t stop them from loving each other wholeheartedly.

My Liberation Notes (2022)

The Yeom siblings in My Liberation Notes also include 2 sisters and a brother like Sung Duk Sun’s family in Reply 1988, but the birth order is a bit different. The oldest sibling, Yeom Ki Jung is a single woman who can’t get a boyfriend but yearns for love. The middle sibling Yeom Chang Hee is a free-spirited man who wants to escape his boring life but has yet to find a chance to do so. The maknae Yeom Mi Jung is an introverted and timid young woman who struggles to break away from her monotonous life.

The life of the Yeom siblings is not as noisy and fun as the Sung siblings, nor is it as dramatic as the Kang sisters. My Liberation Notes depicts how they all suffer from a suffocating, unremarkable adulthood and their journey to escape it to achieve freedom, seeking experiences they should have had a long time ago.

My Liberation Notes is the most different from Reply 1988 and Mother of Mine in its slow pace. Many viewers would find the sibling love of the Yeom siblings relatable as well. They don’t express it with words but still love each other dearly.

My Liberation Notes

These 3 slice-of-life dramas all feature trios of siblings, but each gives off different vibes and conveys different yet equally meaningful messages. If you’ve enjoyed Reply 1988 and Mother of Mine, make sure to tune in for My Liberation Notes that is currently on air.
