Hit K-drama “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” under discussion for a US remake 

“Extraordinary Attorney Woo”, which is creating a craze, has been offered to be remade in the US. 

On July 14th, a drama official told JTBC Entertainment, “Overseas remake proposals are already coming in thanks to the popularity of ‘Extraordinary Attorney Woo’.”

Earlier, the K- drama “Good Doctor”, in which a doctor who was diagnosed with autism is the main character, also got a US remake and topped viewership ratings on ABC channel until season 5. In response to this, another drama production official said, “In the US, I believe they instinctively know that ‘Extraordinary Attorney Woo’ will attract (American viewers) based on the success of ‘Good Doctor’.”

“Extraordinary Attorney Woo”, the No.1 drama among Wed-Thu dramas across all channels, is rewriting history for the cable channel ENA by breaking its own highest ratings with every episode. According to Nielsen Korea, the drama was off to 0.948% in episode 1, doubled to 1.805% in episode 2 after going viral, then jumped to 4.032% in episode 3, 5.7% in episode 4, and 9.138% in episode 5. In the Seoul metropolitan area, episode 5 recorded a rating of 10.297%.

“Extraordinary Attorney Woo” received love from viewers not only in Korea but also overseas. It ranked No. 1 in the non-English TV category on Netflix. On the ‘Global Top 10’ chart compiled and announced by Netflix, “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” topped the non-English TV category with 23.95 million viewing hours from July 4th to July 10th. The gap with the second place is also significant. The second-placed Mexican drama “Control Z – Season 3’” recorded 18.08 million viewing hours. 

“Extraordinary Attorney Woo” also took the No. 1 spot for two weeks in a row in the most buzzworthy TV dramas rankings announced by Good Data Corporation. The buzz index increased by 197 percentage points compared to the first week of the broadcast. Park Eun Bin and Kang Tae Oh were placed 1st and 2nd respectively in the ranking of most buzzworthy actors in the drama category.

The stock price of AStory, the production company of “Extraordinary Attorney Woo”, has risen from 18,000 won before the drama’s premiere to 33,000 won as of the morning of July 14th, following episode 5.
