tvN entertainment programs struggle with poor ratings despite being led by Lee Hyo Ri and Yoo Jae Suk
Lee Hyo Ri’s “Dancing Queens on the Road” and Yoo Jae Suk’s “You Quiz” are recording the lowest ratings in history.
Releasing its first episode in May, “Dancing Queens on the Road” has already aired 11 episodes. While staying at around 3.5%, the rating suddenly fell to 2.5% on the August 3rd broadcast.
Compared to its reputation as a show produced by “Infinite Challenge” PD Kim Tae Ho with a splendid cast of top stars, such as Lee Hyo Ri, Kim Wan Sun, Uhm Jung Hwa, BoA, and Hwasa, this performance is quite disappointing.
Most of the reviews pointed out that the storytelling is boring. In particular, the members performed only one setlist of songs at different places. Although the production team recently tried to bring about a change by letting the members exchange their hit songs and creating a joint stage for five of them, the way they introduced the preparation process was too long.
The same happened to “You Quiz on the Block” (“You Quiz”). The most recent episode, which aired on August 2nd, reached the lowest rating record in 2023 (3.9%).
In fact, the program has been consistently criticized for losing its original intention. Instead of conducting realistic interviews by showing Yoo Jae Suk and Jo Se Ho going around the street and meeting citizens, “You Quiz” has transformed into a program to promote celebrities.
Top stars, such as Cho Jin Woong, Jeon Do Yeon, Lee Byung Hun, Kim Hee Ae, Kim Wo Bin, Han Ji Min, Taeyang, Park Eun Bin, etc., have appeared on the show nearly every week as part of their comeback promotions.
Of course, some actually decided to join “You Quiz” to express their gratitude to fans and the public also had a chance to listen to stars’ sincere stories. However, the unique charm of interesting meetings with ordinary people has disappeared.
As such, production teams should try to reorganize their content and find a new direction. Since the two programs already have two entertainment powerhouses Lee Hyo Ri and Yoo Jae Suk, there is still time for them to gain back strength and return with better stories.
