This actress debuted by producing a film and casting herself after failing auditions

Not giving up after failing auditions, Go Min Si debuted as a director and actress at the same time through her own movie.

Actress Go Min Si once again proved her presence in the movie “Smugglers”, which recently premiered on July 26th.

“Smugglers” is a crime movie about people who make their living by picking up daily necessities thrown into the sea getting caught up in a big smuggling operation. Playing Go Ok Boon, a madam who owns a cafe in the 1970s, Go Min Si showcased an impressive image transformation, from her appearance to her voice.

Go Min Si has become an actress whom everyone knows just by hearing her name. However, her debut days were not easy at all.

In various interviews, Go Min Si confessed that she had dreamed of becoming an actress since she was young but it was not easy for her to challenge it. Accordingly, she even worked as a wedding planner at her parents’ wishes after graduating from high school.

Later, she decided to fulfill her dream at the age of 21 by going to Seoul to attend an acting academy and prepare for the university entrance exam with the money she earned from being a wedding planner.

Pursuing the acting career all by herself, Go Min Si is known to have failed numerous auditions. However, she did not give up. Instead, the young actress made a short movie and debuted as a director with a film called “Parallel Novel”.

In this short film project, Go Min Si took charge of writing the script, directing, and even casted herself as the main actress.

In a media interview, she shared, “I wanted to act and express myself through dramas/films but I failed all the auditions. At that time, I also loved writing essays and other things”, adding “Since I wrote something that reminded me of myself, I wanted to make it into a movie. I was very happy just by the fact that I was able to tell my story and produce a new work.”

Later, Go Min Si began to gain practical experience after starring in SBS’s drama “My Sassy Girl”. 

Leaving a great impression on viewers after appearing in the 2018 film “The Witch” as Kim Da Mi’s friend Myung Hee, she then took on various challenges, including minor roles, supporting roles and leading roles.

In particular, Go Min Si proved her solid acting skills through her portrayal of Lee Eun Yoo in Netflix’s original series “Sweet Home”.

Meanwhile, director Ryu Seung Wan of “Veteran” and “Mogadishu” took the megaphone for “Smugglers” led by trustworthy actors Kim Hye Soo, Yum Jung Ah, Jo In Sung and Kim Jong Soo. The movie has become a box office hit as it surpassed 1 million viewers within four days of its release.
