“Isn’t that racism?” What “Filipino Yoo Jae-suk” experienced in Korea made locals angry

Some Filipino netizens watched a YouTube video of a famous entertainer in their country and claimed that “she suffered racism in Korea”, causing controversy.

Sharon Cuneta, who is active in various fields such as actress, singer and MC in the Philippines, recently uploaded a vlog video containing her visit to Korea on her YouTube channel.

In the video, she went to Korea to spend her vacation with her family. She spent time tasting Korean food and purchasing K-POP goods.

The problem occurred when she and her family visited a luxury goods department store in Seoul. They were barred from entering the Hermes store by an employee. In the end, they turned around, went to the nearby Louis Vuitton store and “flexed” to their hearts’ content. Afterwards, they went back to the Hermes store and showed off their wealth by waving Louis Vuitton shopping bags.

On the other hand, some netizens refuted, “Stores such as Hermes and Chanel are operated through reservations. In Korea, you have to get a waiting number ticket. It was natural that they weren’t allowed to enter.” In fact, some luxury stores such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Hermes require reservations before visiting.
