“Reasons for search and seizure targeting Hook Entertainment include ’embezzlement charges'”
The opinion that Hook Entertainment, to which actress Park Min Young belongs, is being investigated by the police due to charges of embezzlement is drawing attention.
On Nov 10th, the National Police Agency’s Serious Crime Investigation Division conducted a five-hour search and seizure towards Hook Entertainment’s office building in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Since it is very unusual for the National Police Agency to raid entertainment agencies on a large scale, attention was focused on the background of the investigation into Hook Entertainment.
Recently, according to the legal circles, the reasons for the police’s search and seizure included embezzlement charges of Hook Entertainment’s CEO Kwon and some other executives.
In particular, it is said that the police are considering applying the Special Economic Crimes Weighted Punishment Act if the embezzlement amount of Hook Entertainment’s executives exceeds 5 billion won.
An official from the legal community told SBS Entertainment News, “The issuance of a search and seizure warrant means that the police have detected some suspicious points. It is also interpreted that the police expressed confidence in proving the charges, considering that they immediately conducted a search and seizure without summoning related people.“
However, there is an opinion that the embezzlement amount estimated by the police is too large when considering Hook Entertainment’s total sales.
Accordingly, some say that the aftermath of the investigation of businessman Kang Jong Hyun, actress Park Min Young‘s ex-boyfriend who is suspected of being the real owner of the virtual asset exchange Bithumb, may have affected Hook Entertainment.
For this reason, some believe that the National Police Agency’s Serious Crime Investigation Division was directly deployed to execute the search and seizure targeting Hook Entertainment.
Meanwhile, on the day of the search and seizure, Park Min Young reportedly left for Japan immediately after finishing the final filming of tvN’s drama “Love in Contract”.
As unfavorable factors overlap with the aftermath of Park Min Young and Kang Jong Hyun’s scandal and Hook Entertainment’s police investigation, it is expected that future activities of actors Youn Yuh Jung, Lee Seo Jin and Lee Seung Gi will inevitably be disrupted.
