Song Joong Ki “I don’t want to be reborn as a son of a conglomerate. I like the current me”
Actor Song Joong Ki visited Singapore to promote JTBC’s Fri-Sat-Sun drama “Reborn Rich”.
Asian OTT platform Viu held a media conference for “Reborn Rich” at the outdoor stage The Coliseum of Resorts World Sentosa, Singapore at 2 PM on Dec 7th (local time).
A total of 160 reporters from 48 media outlets in 6 Asian countries where Viu is serviced, including Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Malaysia and Thailand, attended the event, proving Song Joong Ki’s popularity.
Song Joong Ki said, “It’s been a while since I came to Singapore due to COVID-19. It’s nice to visit Singapore again. Thank you for inviting me like this.” Starting with his greeting, Song Joong Ki answered all of the questions from reporters in English. Song Joong Ki fascinated foreign reporters by conveying his thoughts in fluent English from beginning to end.
Song Joong Ki cited the trust in writer Kim Tae Hee, whom he worked with through the drama “Sungkyunkwan Scandal”, and the casting of actor Lee Sung Min, whom he has always respected, as reasons for choosing “Reborn Rich”. He was surprised by the fact that “Reborn Rich”, which is not a romantic comedy, is gaining huge popularity in many Asian countries. He even asked reporters, “Is it really popular? In what way is it popular?“
In order to prevent “spoilers“, he sometimes cut off stories while answering questions. He caused laughter by recalling his school days when he attended all-boys middle and high schools. When asked about “interesting feedback after the drama’s airing“, he drew cheers from the scene by replying, “‘Wow! Song Joong Ki is handsome!’ I love that reaction.“
He also showed a very serious aspect. To the question “What if you returned as the youngest son of a conglomerate like in the work?“, he expressed his clear values, “I don’t want to (return). I saw family conflicts caused by money through this drama. Money is important to humans, but it shouldn’t be the top priority.” He repeatedly emphasized his position, “I don’t want to be reborn as a son of a conglomerate.” He then added a witty explanation, “I like the current me.“
Immediately after the outdoor conference event was over, Song Joong Ki approached about 200 fans who had been waiting for a long time outside the fence of the venue to see him, greeted them, shook hands, signed autographs and expressed his gratitude. This was not originally scheduled, and during that process, the scene was reminiscent of Song Joong Ki’s fan meeting.
According to Asian OTT platform Viu, during the 10-day period when episodes 1~6 were released, the drama “Reborn Rich” starring Song Joong Ki was selected as the most watched show in 6 countries, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines.
At the conference, Viu specifically announced that “Reborn Rich”, which ranks first, has 3.3 times higher viewing figures than another work that takes second place.
