BTS meets President Moon Jae-in at the Blue House: Looking handsome despite wearing masks
BTS’s appearance at the Blue House has given their fandom Army the chance to be filled with pride.
On September 14, South Korean President Moon Jae-in handed over the appointment certificate of “Presidential envoy for future generations and culture” to BTS at the Blue House. This is the first meeting between Mr. Moon and BTS after a year since the Big Hit boy group visited the Blue House in honor of National Youth Day in September 2020.
Today’s event was attended by all 7 BTS members, Big Hit Music CEO Lee Jin Hyeong, and many governments and Blue House officials such as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chief of Staff, Director of the Security Office. After issuing the special envoy appointment letter to BTS, President Moon Jae-in presented the group with diplomatic passports and fountain pens to congratulate them on their efforts in enhancing the nation’s global stature. When the photo session ended, the president shook hands with each member. J-Hope gave President Moon a thumbs up, which made everyone laugh.
The Blue House spokesman expressed expectations for BTS, “As BTS has conveyed messages of comfort and hope to the whole world, attending this United Nations General Assembly is expected to be a meaningful opportunity, meant to extend connections to future generations around the world, and draw their sympathies on important international issues”.
BTS will begin activities as a “special presidential envoy” by accompanying President Moon Jae-in to attend an annual United Nations General Assembly session in New York (USA) next week.
On September 20, BTS will attend a session of the UNGA “Sustainable Development Goals Moment” (SDG Moment), where the group will give a speech and deliver a performance broadcast via VCR. SDG Moment is an event that aims to strengthen the international community’s efforts in achieving sustainable development goals, through a blueprint to address global challenges, including poverty and climate crisis. SDG Moment was first organized last year as an annual event chaired by the United Nations Secretary-General, according to the political statement of the Summit on 2019 Sustainable Development Goals.
