The new drama “Alchemy of Souls”, starring actor Lee Jae-wook and Jung So-min, has been released.
According to the rating survey company Nielsen Korea, the first episode of tvN’s “Alchemy of Souls”, which aired on June 18th, recorded an average nationwide rating of 5.2% (peak 6.3%) and 4.8% in the Seoul area (peak 6.0%). The drama ranked 1st among dramas of the same broadcasting time on all cable and non-cable channels nationwide and in Seoul.
In 2049 rating chart, which measures ratings targeting tvN’s content, the drama recorded 2.8% in nationwide rating (peak 3.2%) and 2.5% in Seoul area rating (peak 3.0%). With this result, “Alchemy of Souls” ranked No.1 among TV series on all channels, including terrestrial ones, signaling a good start.
In the first episode, the secret of the birth of Jang Wook (Lee Jae-wook), a noble but bad young master of the Jang Family in a country called Daeho, and the event that caused Nak-soo (Go Yoon-jung) to change her soul with Mu Deok-yi (Jung So-min) got the viewers immersed in the drama from the start. Jang Wook is the last descendant of the late King Go-seong (Park Byung-eun), who changed his soul with Jang Kang (Joo Sang-wook), and became a magician.
Meanwhile, Nak-soo was fatally hit by an ice arrow by Song Rim’s master Park Jin (Yoo Joon-sang) while competing with Daeho’s sorcerers. Her soul was changed with a blind rural woman’s at the moment of crisis.
Later, the fateful meeting between Jang Wook and Deok-yi began. Deok-yi, who was running away, hid in the room where Jang Wook was staying. Jang Wook created a close tension by confessing to Deok-yi, “You have pretty eyes”, as if he has fallen in love with her at first sight. In particular, Jang Wook felt unusual energy from Deok-yi so he then brought her to his home.
Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Mu Deok-yi stole the tablet that could solve the problem of Song Rim when Jang Wook was sleeping. Just in time, Song Rim was attacked by a black group. Taking advantage of the confusion, Mu Deok-yi headed to the secret room of Jeongjingak, where her body was located but got chased by Song Rim’s sorcerers. It was none other than Jang Wook who saved her from such a crisis. Jang Wook then confessed to Mu Deok-yi, “I recognized you at first sight. My teacher”, making the viewers curious about the next episode.
As such, “Alchemy of Souls” captivated the viewers’ five senses with the appearance of their characters and rapid developments. In particular, Hong Sisters, who wrote “Hotel Del Luna” and director Park Joon-hwa of “What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim” joined hands to produce this drama.
“Alchemy of Souls” also showed off its charms as a fantasy romance with colorful characters, their intertwined narratives, the actors’ enthusiastic performances, and spectacular scenes. Based on the relationship between Jang Wook and Deok-yi, the story provoked the audiences’ imagination, making them immerse in the drama even more.
