“2.2 billion friends VS 2.2 billion won”… NCT’s Ji-sung chose friends so that he could earn lots of royalties from friends who listen to his songs

The reason why NCT’s Ji-sung selected friends over money drew attention.

On May 21st, a video showing NCT members playing “Balance Game” was uploaded on the official Youtube channel of NCT. In the first topic of the game, the members had to choose between “Get 2.2 billion friends right now” and “Get 2.2 billion deposited into the bank account right now”.

While the results were divided into halves, Ji-sung’s option and the reason he chose to have 2.2 billion friends attracted attention. Explaining his option, Ji-sung said, “Having 2.2 billion friends means I’ll have 2.2 billion followers on Instagram. Also, if I release a song, at least 2.2 billion people will listen to it” He added, “Then wouldn’t I get paid more than 2.2 billion won in copyright?”, drawing laughter.

In response, Jung-woo teased Ji-sung, saying, “So friends are equal to Instagram followers”. Sung-chan refuted Ji-sung’s reason, saying that not all his friends follow him on Instagram. Other members also expressed their opinions and revealed their thoughts.

Jung-woo, who chose the same option as Ji-sung, said, “On my birthday, maybe not all 2.2 billion but most of them will wish me happy birthday”. Do-young, who selected the opposite option, asked back, “Can you send text messages to 2.2 billion friends on New Year’s Day?”.

Many netizens who watched this video showed agreement with Ji-sung’s argument, saying it was new and extraordinary. In this case, if he uploaded a video on SNS, the views would already be 200 million even if only 10% of his friends clicked on the video. Of course, many believed 2.2 billion won is a better choice, but some later changed to the same opinion as Ji-sung.
