Director Park Hoon-jung's new work "Tyrant" will be released on Disney+ instead of in theaters. With this, director Park Hoon-jung challenges his first series through "Tyrant"

Amidst the unveiling of this year’s major content lineup on Disney+ on Feb 19th, “Tyrant”, a chase action film where director Park Hoon-jung of “The Witch” and “New World” meets Cha Seung-won, Kim Seon-ho and Kim Kang-woo, caught attention.

Originally intended for theatrical release, “Tyrant” was completed as a four-episode series during the editing process after filming. A representative of “Tyrant” told Star News, “We started shooting with the idea of making it into a movie, but during the production process, we decided to release it in a series format that could better showcase the fun of the work, then we considered the platform that best suited it, leading to our collaboration with Disney+.

In particular, director Park Hoon-jung has showcased unconventional, complex characters in his works from “New World” (2013), “The Witch” series (2018, 2022), “Night in Paradise” (2019) to “The Childe” (2023), demonstrating the true value of “character movies”. An official stated, “‘Tyrant’ also features various characters, and the decision to serialize it is director Park Hoon-jung’s choice to clearly showcase the charms of each character.

Director Park Hoon-jung reunites with Cha Seung-won from “Night in Paradise” as well as Kim Seon-ho and Kim Kang-woo from “The Childe” through “Tyrant”. Cha Seung-won takes on the role of former agent “Lim Sang”, who is tasked with removing forces related to the “Tyrant Program”. Kim Seon-ho portrays “Choi Gook-jang”, who works for a state agency but has been operating the “Tyrant Program”, promising a complete transformation different from his previous filmography. Lastly, Kim Kang-woo plays “Paul”, a member of an overseas intelligence agency who is trying to discard the last sample of the “Tyrant Program”. Anticipation is high for how they will appear and what charms they will exhibit in “Tyrant”.

Meanwhile, “Tyrant” depicts people’s pursuit to obtain the last sample of the “Tyrant Program” that disappeared in a delivery accident. It will be released on Disney+ in the second half of this year.
