Actor Yoo Ah In (real name Uhm Hong Sik), who is suspected of drug use, finally stood in front of the public after 50 days of silence.
At 9:30 AM on March 27th, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency’s Drug Crime Investigation Unit summoned Yoo Ah In as a suspect suspected of violating the Narcotics Control Act and began investigating. Yoo Ah In was originally scheduled to appear on March 24th, but despite the fact that it was a private summons investigation, he informed the police of his intention to postpone his attendance on the grounds that the schedule was disclosed to the media.

After finishing the trip to the U.S. with acquaintances, Yoo Ah In left Los Angeles (LA) on the morning of Feb 4th (hereinafter local time) and entered Incheon International Airport on the afternoon of Feb 5th. Yoo Ah In was suspected of habitually administering propofol at multiple hospitals, so the police executed a search and seizure warrant for Yoo Ah In’s body for drug testing upon arrival, and also imposed an overseas travel ban. In addition, the police requested the National Forensic Service to conduct a drug-related evaluation after receiving Yoo Ah In’s body hair.

On the day Yoo Ah In took a drug test, he filmed an advertisement. On Feb 6th, the day Yoo Ah In was investigated by the police for violating the Narcotics Control Act, he filmed an advertisement for outdoor brand N on Saryeoni Forest Path, Jeju Island. Yoo Ah In was questioned by the police until the morning of Feb 6th and left for Jeju Island to film the advertisement.

Marijuana components were detected in Yoo Ah In’s urine. The detailed appraisal of drugs by the National Forensic Service showed a positive result of general marijuana in urine. Following habitual use of propofol, the police also launched an investigation into Yoo Ah In’s alleged use of marijuana.

Yoo Ah In’s mobile phone was confiscated. The police confiscated Yoo Ah In’s mobile phone and began digital forensic work. The police said, “Depending on the purpose, the search warrant may include not only body samples such as hair and body hair, but also mobile phones and electronic devices identified after the body search.”

As a result of the National Forensic Service’s hair test, 3 types of drug were detected. Aside from propofol, marijuana and another third drug component were also detected.

It was not three, but four. Following propofol and marijuana, cocaine and ketamine were detected in Yoo Ah In’s hair. Cocaine is considered one of the top three drugs along with methamphetamine and heroin, as it causes strong hallucinations and addiction.

The police began a search and seizure of Yoo Ah In’s two houses. From 10 AM on March 7th, the police sent investigators to Yoo Ah In’s actual residence in Hannam-dong to secure related evidence. Afterwards, the police began to search and seize Yoo Ah In’s house in Itaewon-dong, which is the address on his resident registration, from 3:30 PM, and left the scene about an hour later at 4:40 PM.

A police investigation into Yoo Ah In’s agency UAA’s staff (manager) and people around him also began. The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency’s Drug Crime Investigation Unit summoned Yoo Ah In’s manager and an acquaintance as witnesses on March 13th and 14th regarding allegations such as Yoo Ah In’s violation of the Narcotics Control Act.

Yoo Ah In appointed a lawyer who used to work at the Kim & Chang law firm – one of the best law firms in Korea. The lawyer appointed by Yoo Ah In worked as a prosecutor for about 11 years since 2006. This lawyer joined the Kim & Chang law firm in 2017 and currently belongs to another law firm. It is known that there is also a chief prosecutor-turned-lawyer in the current law firm of Yoo Ah In’s lawyer.

It is the day Yoo Ah In finally appears at the police station.
