YG reveals official debut lineup for ‘BLACKPINK’s younger sister’ BABYMONSTER with a change in the number of members

YG Entertainment unveiled the official debut lineup for the new girl group BABYMONSTER.

On May 12th, YG announced the final debut members of BABYMONSTER. While the survival show to select YG’s first girl group to debut after BLACKPINK is drawing keen attention around the world, executive producer Yang Hyun Suk introduced the debut lineup by himself.

Yang Hyun Suk chose 5 members Ahyeon, Ruka, Chiquita, Haram and Pharita, who have been so well-loved for their unique skills and outstanding visuals throughout the survival program, and congratulated their debut.

BABYMONSTER was initially announced as a project to select 5 out of 7 trainees to form the debut team. However, executive Yang Hyun Suk suddenly made a turnaround. He added the two remaining trainees who were thought to be eliminated to the official lineup.

Adding Rora, who was scheduled to join another girl group under YG, and Asa, who was planning to participate in a new project in Japan, Yang Hyun Suk confirmed that BABYMONSTER would debut with 7 members without elimination.

Yang Hyun Suk explained, “Over the past two weeks, there were so many fans who wanted all 7 members to debut, so I was confused by various thoughts. The ‘YG FAMILY’ is not simply a group of YG artists but all of you who are currently watching this program. I believe that YG’s fans are the real ‘YG FAM’”, adding “The other two members, Rora and Asa, are members you chose.”

He continued, “I will make sure to accelerate the speed of BABYMONSTER’s debut project. I will do my absolute best to support and assist our BABYMONSTER. To all our YG FAM who have been watching, I sincerely want to say thank you. To the members who must have been anxious, I want to take this opportunity to sincerely say congratulations”, adding “This is a projection, but I don’t think it will pass this fall.”

Former YG’s CEO and executive producer Yang Hyun Suk, who resigned from all YG positions in June 2019 due to the allegation of covering up the drug investigation on former iKON member B.I, drew attention as he returned to lead the BABYMONSTER project.
