The 60th Baeksang Arts Awards took place on May 7th in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
This year’s Baeksang Arts Awards were hosted by Shin Dong-yeop, Suzy, and Park Bo-gum.
The judging criteria for this year’s Baeksang Arts Awards included content provided on terrestrial, cable, OTT, and web platforms from April 1st of last year to March 31st of this year, as well as Korean feature films and plays released domestically during the same period.
In the film category, the protagonist of the Grand Prize was director Kim Sung-soo of ‘12.12: The Day.’ Director Kim Sung-soo expressed his gratitude, saying, “I am astonished. When the film was released last year, I was worried because the theaters were empty, but fortunately, many audiences came to the cinemas. I am truly grateful. I will repay with more entertaining and excellent works in the future.”
In the TV category, ‘Moving’ won the Grand Prize. Lee Seung-won, CEO of the production company, expressed gratitude in his acceptance speech, “For us, ‘Moving‘ was a challenging and difficult work. I am thankful to the actors who stayed with us till the end and to Disney+.”
The Best Drama award went to MBC’s drama ‘My Dearest,’ and the Best Film award went to ‘12.12: The Day.’
The Best Director award in the film category went to Jang Jae-hyun for ‘Exhuma.‘ Director Jang Jae-hyun said, “It is an honor just to be together, but I am grateful for receiving such a big prize. I will accept this award as encouragement to work even harder.”
The Best Actor awards in the film category were awarded to Hwang Jung-min for ‘12.12: The Day’ and Kim Go-eun for ‘Exhuma.’
Hwang Jung-min said, “Actually, I needed courage. Whenever I needed it, Director Kim Sung-soo gave me courage by saying that I was doing well.” He continued, “The timing wasn’t good due to the pandemic, but I am grateful to the audience who loved this movie. I want to share this honor with them.”
Kim Go-eun said, “First of all, I am grateful for receiving such a precious award,” and expressed her gratitude to the director who entrusted her with the role. She continued, “When I think of ‘Exhuma,’ the most enjoyable thing that comes to mind is the set. Last year was personally very difficult and painful for me, but luckily, I encountered a very happy set professionally, which was healing and enjoyable for me to work on.” She further added, “I always work with gratitude, but through the ‘Exhuma’ set, I felt even more grateful for acting.”
The Best Actor awards in the TV category were won by Namgoong Min for ‘My Dearest’ and Honey Lee for the MBC drama ‘Knight Flower.’ Namgoong Min said, “I’ve been to the ‘Baeksang Arts Awards’ several times, but I just attended and left. Today, I am very happy to be able to come up and share my story.”
Honey Lee said, “‘Knight Flower’ was a turning point for me. I had to fly over rooftops on a wire and wield a sword. It was crazy to everyone, but I fell in love with the script and couldn’t stop.” She continued, “It was really tough. I said I wouldn’t do action dramas anymore in my life, but I am deeply conflicted about receiving this award.”
The Variety Show award in the TV category went to Na Young-seok PD and Hong Jin-kyung. The Rookie Awards were won by Lee Jung-ha for TV, Yuna for ‘The Kidnapping Day,’ Lee Do-hyun for film, and Kim Hyung-seo (Bibi) for ‘Hopeless.’
