Starring the hottest actors, these upcoming dramas promise to become hits.
One of the trends in Korean drama and movie production these days is webtoon adaptation. Although webtoon-based works face criticisms that producers are trying to take a safe path without taking the risk of creating original content, there are also many fans who want the scenes they imagined while reading webtoons to unfold in front of their eyes in movies and dramas.
Webtoon-based series and movies have already proven its potential with the success of hits such as “Along with the Gods”, “Sweet Home”, “D.P”, “Hellbound”, and more. In 2022 alone, many popular webtoons namely “All Of Us Are Dead”, “The Sound of Magic”, “Tomorrow”, “Business Proposal”, “Love And Leashes”, were made into dramas and films.
Amid the growing trend of bringing webtoons to the screen, let’s take a look at the two upcoming webtoon adaptations that have become a hot topic even before production thanks to the cast that brought together all trending actors.
“Murderous Toy” – Choi Woo Shik, Son Seok Gu
Although each episode is short, the original webtoon “Murderous Toy”, which is the author’s debut work, became famous for how its messes with readers’ mind by laying out double lines and clues in it.
Choi Woo Shik will take on the role of Lee Tang, the central character of the story as he commits a murder by chance. Lee Tang has been caught up in various incidents since then. What makes him interesting is that it is uncertain whether he is a good person or a villain.
Meanwhile, Son Seok Gu plays a detective who chases Lee Tang. He is a veteran detective full of humanity with a style that thoroughly solves problems. While working on a murder case, he gets caught up in Lee Tang’s case and faces a situation where everything is not going well.
The combination of Choi Woo Shik and Son Seok Gu, two of the hottest actors in 2022 thanks to the popularity of dramas “Our Beloved Summer” and “My Liberation Notes”, are what viewers look forward to see the most in “Murderous Toy”.
“Vigilante” – Nam Joo Hyuk, Lee Joon Hyuk, Yoo Ji Tae
“Vigilante” is a webtoon that has been praised as a cider narrative compared to the frustrating reality as its story reflects events that were social issues at the time of the serialization, in which the protagonist directly judges vicious criminals who receive light punishment.
In the drama “Vigilante”, Nam Joo Hyuk, who recently received great attention for his melodramatic performance in “Twenty Five, Twenty One”, will play Kim Ji Yong, a two-faced character who is a police university student and a vigilante.
Kim Ji Yong is a handsome young man with various martial arts skills. But he is also a dark hero who secretly visits criminals on weekends and punishes them privately.
Lee Joon Hyuk, who became known through his role as the elite soldier in the box office hit “Along with the Gods”, will play Jo Gang Ok. His character supports Kim Ji Yong as a third-generation chaebol in “Vigilante”. The drama also stars Yoo Ji Tae as Jo Heon, a detective who is on the search for Kim Ji Yong.
