TWICE’s Jihyo Talks Solo Debut and Member Support: No Pressure from Nayeon’s Success

Jihyo, who is gearing up for her solo debut, shared Park Jin Young PD’s and TWICE members’ reactions.

On August 18th, a press conference was held in Seoul ahead of the release of Jihyo’s solo mini-album ‘ZONE’.

The album title ‘ZONE’ is a combination of the alphabet Z and the word ONE, representing the meaning of ‘Jihyo’s first (ONE)’ and ‘Jihyo’s complete one (ONE)’.

The title track ‘Killin Me Good’ harmoniously blends a catchy melody and rich vocals to showcase Jihyo herself. The lyrics, which convey her honest and natural emotions, were written by Park Jin Young, who has been part of Jihyo’s growth.

When asked about Park Jin Young PD’s reaction to her solo album, Jihyo said, “He gave me a lot of positive feedback. Instead of detailed feedback, he said ‘well done’ and ‘you’ve worked hard’.

Particularly, Jihyo expressed her fondness for the lyrics written by Park Jin Young himself, “The process of working on the lyrics for this title track took a long time. I, Park Jin Young PD, and other lyricists participated a lot. Personally, I really liked the title ‘Killin Me Good.’ I thought it would also look great in the choreography and it conveyed the feeling of being lovely yet honestly expressing the content of love.”

TWICE members also provided support to Jihyo. She mentioned that whenever she meets with the unit MisaMo (Mina, Sana, Momo) who are currently active in Japan, they exchange support and encouragement. Nayeon, who had previously embarked on solo activities, also gave her honest feedback.

As Jihyo ventures into her second solo activity for TWICE, she expresses no sense of pressure due to Nayeon’s prior success. Jihyo said, “I don’t have specific goals in terms of achievements. I believe I’ve already achieved my goal by creating an album that I can be satisfied with, that I’m not embarrassed about, and that showcases the kind of artist I am. Instead of saying ‘please listen to it,’ I hope people can comfortably enjoy my album.”

Jihyo’s first solo album ‘ZONE’ will be released at 1 PM KST on August 18th.
