Kong Xueer is gaining renewed attention following the success of the Chinese historical romance drama Zhu Yu, with her past as a K-pop trainee becoming a hot topic among fans.
The actress, who plays the supporting role “Yu Qianqian,” has seen a surge in popularity alongside lead stars Zhang Linghe and Tian Xiwei. However, what surprised many is her little-known connection to the K-pop industry—particularly her reported near-debut with TWICE.

According to reports, Kong Xueer was previously a trainee under JYP Entertainment and was expected to debut as part of the pre-debut girl group “6mix.” The lineup reportedly included future TWICE members such as Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Jihyo, and Sana.
However, the project was ultimately canceled, and JYP later launched the survival show Sixteen, which formed TWICE. By that time, Kong Xueer had already returned to China, missing the opportunity to compete for a spot in the final lineup.
After leaving Korea, she continued her idol journey in China, participating in survival programs and debuting in temporary groups such as THE9 and “Lady Bees.” She has since transitioned into acting, where she is now building a solid career.

The buzz around her past has added another layer to her rising fame, as fans revisit her “what could have been” story in the K-pop scene. Meanwhile, Zhu Yu continues to draw attention not only for its storyline but also for viral moments involving its cast, further boosting Kong Xueer’s visibility.
Her journey—from a near K-pop debut to becoming a recognized actress in China—highlights the unpredictable paths many idols and trainees take before finding their place in the entertainment industry.
