According to multiple music industry sources cited on July 14, TWICE‘s Chaeyoung recently held meetings with another entertainment company regarding her individual career.
Details about whether the discussions will lead to an exclusive contract have not been disclosed, and no agreement has been confirmed. Industry insiders believe the move may reflect Chaeyoung’s desire for greater flexibility in developing her solo career.
Known as one of TWICE’s most artistically distinctive members, Chaeyoung has consistently showcased her talents beyond performing. In addition to writing lyrics and rapping, she has earned recognition for her unique interests in art and fashion, leading many to speculate that she hopes to expand her creative freedom.
Rather than leaving JYP Entertainment entirely, industry observers believe Chaeyoung could pursue a structure that separates her solo management from TWICE’s group activities. Under this model, members would sign with different agencies for individual projects while continuing to promote together under JYP as TWICE. The arrangement has become increasingly common among established K-pop groups seeking to balance long-term group promotions with expanding solo careers.
Chaeyoung is not the only member linked to outside agencies during the ongoing negotiations. Earlier on July 14, reports claimed that Tzuyu had agreed not to renew her exclusive contract with JYP Entertainment while planning to continue participating in TWICE’s group activities.
Meanwhile, Jeongyeon was also reported to have met with VARO Entertainment, the agency representing her older sister, actress Gong Seung Yeon. At the time, the agency confirmed the meeting but emphasized that no contract had been finalized.
These developments have intensified speculation that multiple members could follow a similar path by separating their solo and group contracts.
Many industry insiders point to BLACKPINK as a successful example of this arrangement. While BLACKPINK continues its group activities under YG Entertainment, each member now manages her solo career through a different company. Observers believe TWICE could adopt a similar strategy, allowing members greater freedom in pursuing acting, music, fashion, and other personal ventures without affecting the group’s future.
JYP Entertainment has not confirmed any individual contract decisions. The agency stated: “TWICE is currently in the contract renewal discussion period. We will provide an update once decisions have been finalized.”
TWICE originally debuted in 2015 and renewed as a full group in 2022. The current negotiations mark the group’s second contract renewal and are being closely watched by fans, as the nine members continue balancing one of K-pop’s biggest global group careers with increasingly active solo projects.
