Sung Si Kyung’s Distasteful Remark about Crush and Red Velvet Joy’s Relationship Sparks Criticism

Sung Si Kyung is criticized for allegedly looking down on idols

In a recent appearance on Sung Si Kyung’s YouTube channel, Crush opened up about his latest release.

Sung Si Kyung, impressed by Crush’s new song, voiced his admiration, saying, “I believe our country needs a pop music star like Crush. I hope he achieves even greater success, more than Cha Eunwoo. I hope the younger generation aspires to say, ‘I want to become like Crush, writing songs instead of being an idol.’

However, the conversation took an unexpected turn when Sung Si Kyung made remarks referring to the romantic relationship of Crush and Red Velvet’s Joy, leaving Crush visibly flustered.

Sung Si Kyung commented, “Being an idol is fine, but nowadays, there are too many idols. You could be an artist and date an idol. That’s also a valid option.

The distasteful joke, however, did not sit well with some netizens, who left comments criticizing Sung Si Kyung:

  • “He should know better at his age; this is just plain rude.”
  • “Bringing up Cha Eunwoo out of nowhere and making jokes about someone else’s relationship is impolite.”
  • “Maybe he should just stick to singing.”
  • “Does he view female idols as mere accomplishments?”
  • “This is just Sung Si Kyung’s nature; not surprising at all.”
  • “He’s blatantly looking down on idols.”
  • “Simultaneously looking down on Cha Eunwoo, Crush, Joy, and the entire idol industry.”
