Netizens call this (G)I-DLE member a “talentless visual”, who is only assigned meaningless lines

Netizens always praise (G)I-DLE as a talented girl group, with the exception of one member

Despite earning a lot of praise for her outstanding visuals, (G)I-DLE member Shuhua often draws criticisms for her lack of skills. In fact, many netizens even questioned the reason why Shuhua got to debut in the first place.

Throughout her time with (G)I-DLE, Shuhua constantly gets embroiled in controversies regarding her skills. In particular, the female idol barely gets any singing lines in (G)I-DLE songs, and is often assigned meaningless parts, drawing attention. While fans of Shuhua defended the idol, saying that Cube is mistreating her, many netizens would explain that Shuhua “is not talented enough to sing more challenging parts”.

In (G)I-DLE’s title song, Shuhua’s singing time is alarmingly low, and in some cases, all she sings is the repetitive “la la la”. The total singing time of Shuhua sometimes doesn’t surpass 10 seconds.

Lack of improvements

Ever since her debut in 2018, netizens found no noticeable improvements in Shuhua’s facial expressions nor vocal skills. In addition, they also criticize the idol’s language skills, saying that Shuhua is worse in Korean than Yuqi – a fellow foreign member. Yuqi has shown drastic changes in skills since her debut, netizens said, while Shuhua is the complete opposite, leading to many questioning if Shuhua practices properly.

Consecutive mistakes while performing

Other than (G)I-DLE stages, Shuhua also received the ire of netizens after appearing on a special stage of the 2020 KBS Gayo Daechukje. Here, she performed Apink’s “I Don’t Know” with other maknaes of Kpop girl groups, including Arin (Oh My Girl), Jang Wonyoung (IZ*ONE), and Yuna (ITZY). However, while the remaining maknaes were praised for their visuals and stage presence, Shuhua was showered in complaints for making constant mistakes on the stage.

From missing the beat to doing the wrong movements, netizens pointed out various issues with Shuhua’s performance.

Poor live singing on “Yoo Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook”

“Yoo Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook” is a Korean music show famous for focusing on the vocal abilities of its guests, where singers are required to sing with a live band and no backtrack. Therefore, any mistake made while singing can be heard by the audience of the show.

Accordingly, when (G)I-DLE performed the songs “Latata” and “DUMDi DUMDi” live, all members except for Shuhua received numerous compliments. However, despite having a fairly short singing line, Shuhua was the only one who drew criticism.

Being called tone deaf when showing off her voice on stream

Shuhua even had a livestream and sang live popular K-pop songs like Lee Hi’s Breathe, Taeyeon’s 11:11, Jay Chou’s Confession Balloon… She did, however, make plain how poor a singer she was. She consistently sang off the key, which “disasterized” the broadcast.

Immediately after, netizens left many comments asking Cube to answer why she was in the debut lineup:

  • Oh my god, how can she debut? It’s been 2 years but she still hasn’t made any progress.
  • I don’t mean any hate here, but I absolutely don’t understand why Cube chose her over Chowon.
  • I know Shuhua is still working hard, but it’s better for her fans to stop defending her. Shuhua clearly needs more practice, but Cube let her debut too soon. And whether she sings in Korean or in Chinese, her voice sounds equally bad, so it’s not because of her pronunciation. Even she’s not a rookie anymore.

Additionally, due to thoughtless comments, (G)I- DLE’s maknae was also involved in a number of controversies. She will therefore probably start getting a lot of antifans soon if she doesn’t change her attitude. Hopefully Shuhua will manage herself better and work harder on her skills.
