aespa decorate cover of British magazine DORK, 1st Kpop group to do so

“Global sensation” aespa becomes the first Kpop group to grace the cover of the British music-specialized magazine, DORK.

On the official website of the British music magazine, DORK, an article highlighting aespa’s global activities and drawing attention to their English single, “Better Things”, was published.

Here, DORK introduced aespa by stating, “Made up of four members, KARINA, GISELLE, WINTER and NINGNING, aespa made their debut in late 2020 amidst a global pandemic and have since hit endless milestones in record time, both in the online realm and when they broke out into the real world”.

Furthermore, interviews with the members were also disclosed.

Here, Karina revealed her thoughts on aespa’s unique concept, which is accompanied by a “Marvel-esque” YouTube series, where each member is connected to a different avatar (ae).

“When I first heard about the concept, I was curious and intrigued by the idea of trying something that no one had attempted before,” Karina said, adding that she had a lot of wonders and questions at the time, but eventually, the members have worked together to building this concept into aespa’s distinct image.

Meanwhile, NingNing revealed while she didn’t enjoy listening to aespa’s hyperpop music at first, the genre blends well with aespa’s style, and eventually becomes one of her favorites. “ I believe our own take on hyperpop has evolved naturally along the way as the sound was able to really harmoniously mould with our identity and complement our concept”, the female idol said.

Afterwards, when asked about a moment of pride as aespa, Giselle recalled about aespa being the 1st international artist to perform at Tokyo Dome in the shortest period, soon after debut. As the female idol is half-Japanese, such an achievement in her birth country must have felt impactful.

Finally, Winter mentioned how proud she felt when aespa broke the 1st week sales record among Kpop girl groups with “My World”.

“I think repaying fans with great performances and music is most important because I know that these achievements did not come easy, so we’ll continue to work hard to make more proud moments”, she also confessed.

On the other hand, DORK described aespa’s new song “Better Things” as once not tied down by its storyline.

“Better Things’ brings out the best of aespa’s vocals and harmonies, which up until now, have been sprinkled throughout their discography in tracks like B-side ‘Thirsty’ and their first English single ‘Life’s Too Short’”, the magazine wrote.
