Locals complain about Lee Sang-soon and Lee Hyo-ri’s Jeju cafe… “Why do people with money set it up here?”

Some locals frowned at singer Lee Sang-soon, who recently opened a cafe on Jeju Island.

On KBS2’s “Entertainment company Live”, which aired on July 7th, local residents expressed their thoughts about the opening of Lee Sang-soon‘s cafe.

Earlier on July 1st, Lee Sang-soon opened a cafe in Dongbok-ri, Gujwa-eup, Jeju. He personally served coffee to customers, and helped them take commemorative photos together with Lee Hyo-ri.

However, as a large crowd gathered, it closed 12 minutes after opening on the second day. In the end, Lee Sang-soon’s cafe decided to change its operation into reservation system.

Lee Sang-soon also wrote on his Instagram account, “I have wanted to sometimes stop by when I have time to drink coffee and have small talks with customers, but this incident made me feel that it was more difficult than I thought. I will do my best to prevent damage to other villagers. I will step back from making drinks on my own in order to take charge of the overall operation.

Even though the cafe is being reorganized ahead of reservation system, tourists visited the cafe, wondering if it would be possible for them to meet Lee Sang-soon and Lee Hyo-ri.

Regarding this, one resident said, “It’s uncomfortable. Tourists keep coming even though the door isn’t open like that. I can’t even pass by if there’s a traffic jam on my way back from the senior citizens’ center. The parking lot isn’t their own parking lot either, so why did everyone stop their cars?

She then expressed her dissatisfaction, “They’re not people without money. Why do people with money set up a cafe here? It doesn’t make sense from a common-sense standpoint.”

On the other hand, another resident confessed, “I think the initial complaints will be dealt with soon after reaching an agreement with Lee Hyo-ri and Lee Sang-soon. I think the cafe will continue to develop as tourists visit here, and this effect will gradually touristify the surrounding area.
