The film’s cast, including actors Lee Sun-kyun, Cho Yeo-jeong, Song Kang-ho, Choi Woo-sik, and Park So-dam, received global recognition and love from the audiences.
Amidst the ongoing controversy surrounding Lee Sun-kyun‘s drug allegations, his role and lines in ‘Parasite’ have been revisited. In the film, Lee Sun-kyun played CEO Park Dong-ik, a wealthy businessman who is gentle and kind but never allows others to cross the line. He received praise for his portrayal, especially for the chemistry with Cho Yeo-jeong, who played his wife Yeon-kyo.
One of the memorable scenes in ‘Parasite’ is the bedroom scene between the seemingly pure and noble wealthy couple Dong-ik and Yeon-kyo. Dong-ik provocatively asks, “Doesn’t this look like the backseat of my car? Yoon-gi’s lover left some panties here.” In response, Yeon-kyo cries out, “Get me some drugs.“
This scene reveals the characters’ hypocrisy and their desire to look down on others, their underwear fetish, and even their desire for drugs.
On October 19th, news broke through various Korean media outlets that top star ‘L’ is under investigation for drug allegations, and it was revealed that the star in question is Lee Sun-kyun.
On October 20th, Lee Sun-kyun’s agency confirmed that he is undergoing an investigation. The agency stated, “We are currently verifying the accurate facts regarding the allegations against Lee Sun-kyun. We will sincerely cooperate with any investigations conducted by the relevant authorities in the future.”
They added, “Lee Sun-kyun has been continuously subject to defamation and threats by individual A related to the case and has submitted a criminal complaint to the investigative authorities.“
