The agency continued, “Around February, we filed a criminal allegation for defamation using false information against a group of people who have been sanding the Artist, including multiple social accounts/IDs of the person reasonably presumed to be the accuser, to the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul. The case is currently under investigation and our legal representative has collected data to secure the personal information of the person believed to be the same person as the accuser and delivered it to the investigator in charge. After we applied for and executed a warrant to secure communication confirmation data, we are waiting for a reply from the company.”

EDAM added, “We are in the process of securing the personal information of the accus through an information disclosure request to the relevant organizations. We are also preparing procedures to file additional criminal charges including defamation against the accuser, as soon as the accuser’s personal information is secured through these procedures.”

The agency also reported the progress of the lawsuit for damage compensation. They said, “On September 8th, we filed a lawsuit against the accuser in the Seoul Central District Court, claiming damages for illegal acts, such as defamation of the Artist, violation of personal rights and false accusation. In this case, after filing the complaint, we began the application process to obtain the accuser’s personal information. As the court has adopted our motion, we are now waiting to receive relevant materials. As soon as the accuser’s personal information is confirmed, we will hold the accuser strictly liable for damages.”

IU’s side emphasized, “We are in the process of pursuing civil and criminal liability for indiscriminate slander and illegal acts against the Artist perpetrated either online or offline, according to our ‘zero tolerance principle’. We are also preparing additional follow-up measures.”

Recently, death threats were sent against the Artist and such violent acts have gone too far so investigative agency details were dispatched to Kakao Entertainment’s headquarters and the Artist’s home. EDAM said, “The Artist was filming at the time. The matter was concluded after the investigative agency confirmed both security and her safety. We immediately increased security forces for the Artist.”

Lastly, the agency clearly stated that false reports might also be subject to punishment, adding “We will pursue those including the above accusers without fail and urge investigative agencies to swiftly and severely punish them.”
