“We have something to tell you regarding BTS’s Busan concert.

Hello, this is HYBE.

We would like to express our position regarding “BTS ‘Yet To Come’ in BUSAN concert for the promotion of the 2030 Busan World Expo” to be held at the Busan Asiad Main Stadium on October 15th.

First of all, in response to media inquiries about the cost of the Busan concert, we have already stated that there would be a significant cost and a large proportion of it will be covered by corporate sponsorships, online streaming advertisements, and subsidiary projects of ‘The City Project’. We have also informed you that we already decided to pay for the shortfall that cannot be covered by these measures. BTS will also appear at the concert without a separate fee, which actually embodies the artists’ idea of wanting to give free performances to many fans.

Despite our explanations, we feel so sorry that controversies surrounding the Busan concert still arose, so we would like to clarify our positions.

HYBE and BTS have always focused on valuable outcomes rather than costs when participating in national events.

Our agency and BTS have been participating in many large and small national events since before. We have joined the effort to contribute to our country and society, and never prioritized the cost issue. We understand that the costs of the event cannot be fully covered by the government’s financial resources. Also, since support from the government is a source of taxpayers’ money, we always try to approach it carefully.

We are doing the same way with the cost of the Busan concert this time. The government, local governments, and bidding committees are doing their best to support this concert by providing the concert hall as well as investing funds within a limited budget. In addition, we believe that it is not desirable to exhaust the resources of the government, local governments, and companies that are striving to host the 2030 Busan World Expo on a large scale due to the Busan concert.

If BTS had considered cost as the most important factor when participating in national events in the past, it would have been very difficult for them to produce many results at major events for our country and for the world. Our agency focused on the process to produce high-level results at events joined by BTS, and we believe that was meaningful enough because we were satisfied with BTS’s performance and the results we produced.

However, there is one thing we cannot give up on. That’s the standard of the stage where BTS stands. The fact that the world’s best artists participate in a national event does not compromise the level of the stage. This Busan concert is no different from any other concert. We will only focus on making the best results and making the most possible results to secure high standards in various side events as well as on the stage of the Busan Asiad Main Stadium, where BTS’s Busan concert will be held. Creating a great concert that we expect and creating the value that we expect in promoting the 2030 Busan World Expo is the only goal that our agency and BTS have.

HYBE and BTS are proud to contribute to our country.

Every year, BTS has been invited not only by the Korean government but also by various countries and organizations around the world to participate in their events. Although most of these requests are not considered the artists’ original role, we are confident that whenever there was a really important and meaningful national or global event, BTS always tried to contribute through active participation and produced significant results.

We think it is an important opportunity for BTS and our agency to participate in major events and contribute to our country.

It is because the fact that BTS, which has become a global super IP, and HYBE, which has grown into a company with major bases in three countries, started in Korea is the basis that will never change.

BTS and HYBE believe that our efforts for our country, for the world, or for our country to contribute to the world are something to be proud of as Korean citizens.

HYBE and BTS want to help attract attention for the 2030 Busan World Expo.

The 2030 Busan World Expo is expected to bring economic effects of tens of trillion won to Busan and Korea, and its scale is even larger than the World Cup as a single event. The World Expo is also the place where phonographs and TVs, which are the basis of popular music, were first introduced to human society. Now that it is a place that encompasses the inventions and new technologies that make up modern civilization, there is no need to think about why hosting the 2030 Busan World Expo is important for Korea and why efforts should be made to attract attention to it.

In addition, Korea is known to be an “underdog” in the competition to host the 2030 Busan World Expo. Korea has a history of overcoming inferiority and achieving excellent results since ancient times, and BTS is an example of this history of striving and growing. The bid for the 2030 Busan World Expo made us think that everyone should work together to show a wonderful reversal, and therefore, BTS and our agency also decided to help.

HYBE and BTS want to make Busan a place that people around the world will pay more attention to.

More than 60,000 fans in Korea and from other countries as well as officials of the 2030 World Expo will gather at the concert and offline events to be held in Busan and the Busan Asiad Main Stadium. Moreover, more than 150 times the number of visitors to Busan will watch the concert through live streaming around the world. More than 10 million fans and officials will be watching Busan and feel the same emotions.

In this short period of time, many people will pay attention to the Busan concert, and at the same time, they will see Busan as a candidate site for the 2030 World Expo. Shouldn’t we make them potential supporters of the 2030 World Expo? If we thoroughly prepare to make Busan widely known through this big chapter for the rest of the year, this Busan concert will contribute to attracting more attention to the 2030 Busan World Expo. That alone is enough to make BTS and our agency feel so proud.

There are less than four weeks left until the Busan concert. With BTS, we would like to make an effort to contribute even a little more to the promotion of the 2030 Busan World Expo. There may be big and small obstacles in the process, but our agency and BTS will do our best to provide a cornerstone for the Busan concert to provide a turning point in attracting attention for the 2030 Busan World Expo. We would appreciate it if you could show us your interest and support.”
