The behind story of the scene where IU swears in “Broker”, “I changed the lines to Korean swear words”
IU got praised a lot for her improved acting and image transformation through “Broker”.
“That line in the script seemed to be Japanese swear words, so I told my opinion to the director and changed it to Korean swear words”, said IU. This is the part in “Broker” that shows the most impressive improvement of singer-actress Lee Ji-eun (IU).
Lee Ji-eun, who plays the role of So-young, a single mother who left her child in the baby box, has made a drastic transformation from her existing image of a cute and lovely K-pop star IU. So-young’s backstory, the unavoidable circumstance that forces her to abandon her child, is perfectly delivered to the audience through Lee Ji-eun’s deep acting.
Especially the scene where Lee Ji-eun swears intensely at the beginning of the movie is when you can clearly see Lee Ji-eun’s drastic image transformation. Revealing that she asked the director to let her change the swear words in the script, Lee Ji-eun said, “It was my first time swearing directly, so I practiced a lot at home. Luckily, other actors performed really well in the scene that I got angry, so we completed it much faster than I expected.”
Song Kang-ho, who plays Sang-hyeon, a broker who does baby trading with So-young in the movie, also complimented Lee Ji-eun, saying “I saw Lee Ji-eun’s excellent acting in numerous dramas so I already knew that she’s a great actress. But I didn’t expect that she would do this well.”
Song Kang-ho continued, “The next scene where Lee Ji-eun kicks the front seat of the car is her improvisatory acting. It was just a natural reaction but I especially like that scene.”
“Broker” depicts the unexpected journey of a single mother who abandons her child in the baby box and baby trading brokers. The movie will premiere in Korea on the 8th of next month.
