Henry Cavill confirms he is not coming back as Superman

Just 2 months after announcing his return, Henry Cavill announces he has been dropped as DC’s Superman.

On December 14 (local time), Henry Cavill made a breaking announcement through his Instagram that he would no longer play DC’s Superman. The reason given is that DC, along with director James Gunn and producer Peter Safran, are planning to cast a younger actor for the role.

“I will, after all, not be returning as Superman,” Henry Cavill wrote on Instagram. “After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life. The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that.”

According to Henry Cavill’s post, it seems that the actor himself was surprised by this decision. Back in October, he was extremely excited to announce his big return as Superman. However, moving forward, fans will no longer be able to see Henry Cavill wearing the Superman cape.

“For those who have been by my side through the years… we can mourn for a bit, but then we must remember… Superman is still around. Everything he stands for still exists, and the examples he sets for us are still there,” the actor said. Finally, he concluded, “My turn to wear the cape has passed, but what Superman stands for never will. It has been a fun ride with you all, onwards and upwards.”

Right after Henry Cavill’s announcement, director James Gunn also confirmed the actor’s departure. According to him, the new story will focus on “an earlier past of Superman’s life, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill”.

At the same time, he also expressed that he and Henry talked about “exciting possibilities to work together in the future”.

However, this is far from being the only shocking news that shook the DC fandom nowadays. In particular, The Hollywood Reporter previously stated that “Wonder Woman 3” “is not moving forward and is considered dead”.
