Amid fake news, inews24 took action against the source for falsely accusing a well-known girl group member turned actress of drug use and investigation
On Oct 26th, inews24 issued a statement stating, “A fake image, cleverly manipulated to make it look like it was created by an inews24 reporter, is being widely disseminated. This fake image is being used as the basis for news reports.”
They went on to clarify that the image contained fabricated news alleging a well-known girl group member turned actress being investigated for drug use. The news even used the girl group and actress’ real name to falsely suggest their involvement in the recent government crackdown on drug-related issues.
inews24 emphasized that they never reported on this matter, and the image does not involve any of their reporters. They strongly condemned the use of their media outlet’s name for the dissemination of false news.
inews24 confirmed that the related image originally spread through “Ilbe Storehouse”, and they are actively cooperating with relevant authorities to identify and penalize those responsible for creating and distributing this false information. They also requested further clarifications and corrections regarding the situation, making it clear that they have not reported on this matter.
This fabricated news has caused confusion in the industry, particularly given the ongoing drug investigations involving celebrities such as Lee Sun-kyun and G-Dragon. The indiscriminate use of celebrities’ real names in such fabricated news has led to concerns and distress among those wrongly implicated.
