Former Classmate Voices Support for Kim Hieora Amid School Bullying Allegations

Amid the allegations of school bullying during middle school years against Kim Hieora, a post defending her has surfaced.

On September 7th, a lengthy post titled ‘Kim Hieora Was Famous in Middle School‘ was published on the online community Nate Pann. A, who claimed to be from the same middle school as Kim Hieora, spoke up, “Kim Hieora was famous when she attended our school. You can’t go unnoticed when you’re that fair-skinned. She was incredibly fair-skinned. She stood out so much if she just walked around.”

A went on to comment on Kim Hieora’s statement in which she refuted the bullying allegations, “As far as I remember, Kim Hieora’s statement is true. They may have been a group of kids who played around, but I don’t recall them bullying or harassing others like the recent school violence issues. The worst thing I remember them doing is sneaking into the cafeteria (which is not something one should do).

A emphasized that they remember Kim Hieora not for school violence. A said, “In articles and comments, it seems like Big Sangji was a notorious gang of kids back then, but if you ask friends from our middle school, opinions are divided. The activities of our school’s ‘playing group’ were different. I’ll just write what I saw as it is. I hope no one was hurt by exaggerated gossip.”

Earlier on September 6th, Dispatch reported that Kim Hieora was part of a group of students who engaged in school bullying during her middle school years, involving stealing money, physical assault, and verbal abuse. Additionally, there are reports that she ordered other students to buy cigarettes and took their money.

As the controversy grew bigger, Kim Hieora’s agency acknowledged, “It is true that Kim Hieora associated with those individuals,” but also added, “Not all of the allegations raised by the media (Dispatch) are true.”

Kim Hieora herself explained, “I was an immature person, and I still am. I was not a model student who studied hard or followed my parents’ and teachers’ advice. I was ignorant to the point of not realizing that my mere existence could make someone uncomfortable. However, I did not intentionally, continuously, or systematically bully weaker students, and I did not lead a cowardly life.

As a result of the controversy, Coupang Play’s ‘SNL Korea,’ scheduled to air on September 9th with Kim Hieora as the host, announced the cancellation of the recording, citing the allegations of school bullying.
