Female stars struggle with career hiatus: Kim Hee Sun hated her husband, Jiyeon felt empty
Following T-ara Jiyeon, Song Yoon Ah, etc., Kim Hee Sun also confessed the hardships she faced due to career breaks.
Kim Hee Sun recently had an interview ahead of the release of her new film “Honeysweet”.
Expressing her feelings about her career hiatus, the actress shared, “After I got married and had a child, I took a long break for six years. During my hiatus, whenever I watched any movie or drama, I felt a little empty. I thought to myself that ‘if I hadn’t gotten married, that role would have been mine’. There were times when I just hated my husband”. With a positive mindset, she added, “But I think it was rather a precious time for me to recharge myself.”
Kim Hee Sun confessed, “How can a person live thinking only about work for 30 years? When I was in my 20s, I worked restlessly in movies and dramas, as an MC, and with advertisements. I think those experiences have become the stepping stone for me to enjoy my life more leisurely now”, adding “Now I can choose what I want to do, and there are still people who want to work with me. That’s the driving force that allows me to continue working.”
Not only Kim Hee Sun, but T-ara Jiyeon also talked about the difficulties she faced after getting married.
On August 3rd, Jiyeon appeared in a Youtube content with her friend. In the video, she shared, “When I decided to get married, I thought I would still continue to do activities to some extent. However, I didn’t expect that it would be this tough. I felt quite empty and I thought my entire career had been overshadowed by my marriage”. Jiyeon added, “Getting married at a young age is my choice so I accept everything. My life just turned onto a new chapter but I’m still the same”.
Earlier, Song Yoon Ah also confessed her honest feelings about going on a hiatus after giving birth. In a video on her Youtube channel, the actress said, “‘I thought I would be able to return to work after giving birth and waiting for only 100 days. However, I actually took a break for 5 years. Even my agency questioned, ‘This is not how it should be, is it?’”
In the case of Park Ha Sun, she also went through career breaks two times. She went on a hiatus for two years after rumors of her romantic relationship with Ryu Soo Young broke out then made a comeback with the drama “Drinking Solo”. However, she married Ryu Soo Young in 2017 and gave birth to her child so she took another two-year break.
In this regard, Park Ha Sun directly explained, “After the hiatuses, I found every working opportunity very precious. I even shoot documentaries and held a signing session at a pottery event. There were good times and bad times, but when bad things come, good things will definitely follow”. Revealing how she overcame negative thoughts during her hiatuses, the actress said, “I reassured myself by thinking that I was doing the best thing I could do in my life”.
