ILLIT changes fandom name due to overlap controversy “Sorry for any confusion”

Girl group ILLIT's side ultimately decided to change the fan club name that sparked controversy due to overlap

On April 22nd, ILLIT’s agency BELIFT LAB announced through Weverse, “Originally announced on April 21st, the fan club name was selected among various candidates compiled with fan participation, reflecting our wishes for an everlasting love between ILLIT and fans. However, we have decided to revisit the matter upon reviewing various concerns that have emerged.

The agency stated, “The new fan club name will be chosen among other shortlisted candidates and be announced at a later date. A naming contest will not be held this time.” They also expressed their apologies for causing confusion regarding the fan club name decision.

“HYBE’s youngest daughter” ILLIT unveiled their official fandom name on April 21st. Previously, BELIFT LAB announced that ILLIT members would select the official fan club name from fan-submitted candidates. The fandom name chosen by ILLIT was “LILLY”.

However, controversy arose as it was pointed out that this name overlapped with NMIXX’s Lily. Using a senior’s name as the fandom name is said to go against business ethics.

In the end, ILLIT decided to change the fandom name from LILLY to “LILLYs”. Nevertheless, the controversy persisted as “LILLYs” overlapped with the personal fandom name of BLACKPINK’s Lisa (LILIES). Consequently, ILLIT decided to change the fan club name once again.
