Fans defend Tiffany against unexpected criticisms for “mocking Jessica”

Tiffany’s fans explained that their idol did not “throw shades” at former Girls’ Generation member Jessica.

Recently, Girls’ Generation Tiffany was embroiled in a controversy for allegedly “shading” a former member of the group Jessica. On July 29 in New York, Tiffany was at a Samsung event when a fan shouted a line from “I Got A Boy”: “Bring it back to 140.” In response, Tiffany said without hesitation: “Girl, that’s pretty fast.” The original video recorded more than 1 million views and thousands of comments.

Netizens left a surprisingly huge number of negative comments, stating that the fan who shouted the line intentionally did so to draw attention. At the same time, they took jabs at Tiffany for allegedly “shading” her former member, Jessica, since “Bring it back to 140” used to be Jessica’s line.

A clip of her interaction with a fan gained attention. The fan shouted: “Bring it back to 140.” In response, Tiffany said, “Girl, that’s pretty fast”

In light of mounting criticisms, fans defend Tiffany and affirm she was only responding courteously to the fan who shouted the line. Moreover, they clarify that the number “140” refers to the tempo/beat per minute (BPM) of some verses in “I Got A Boy.”

Hence, when Tiffany said “That’s pretty fast,” she meant the tempo of the verses, according to fans. They conclude that it was a normal interaction between the idol and her fan, and there was no “shade” in it.

The fan who had that interaction with Tiffany also made a video to clarify the situation. She affirmed she did not remember that the line was sung by Jessica, and she meant no bad intention. The fan continued Tiffany did not mean anything bad as a group of netizens suggested.
