After more than a year of absence, EXO has just returned to the music industry with a new album and achieved some very positive achievements.
On June 7, EXO officially returned with a special album titled “Don’t Fight The Feeling”. This is the group’s first comeback after more than a year since the 6th full album OBSESSION. The album includes the title song “Don’t Fight The Feeling” and 4 other songs. After the first 24 hours of release, the group’s new product has achieved certain achievements.
For domestic digital music achievements, Don’t Fight The Feeling ranked first on the real-time charts of Bugs and Genie sites. After the first day of release, the song won No.1 on Bugs’ daily chart. Thereby it broke BTS Butter’s PAK, but lost the top spot on this site’s real-time chart.
In foreign digital music segment, Don’t Fight The Feeling debuted at No.1 on Worldwide iTunes Album and Song Chart. The album topped iTunes album charts in 87 countries and regions. In addition, the song also rose to first place on the Digital Album Sales chart at 3 Chinese music sites including QQ Music; Kugou Music; and Kuwo Music.
On YouTube, the MV recorded 23.38 million views, 2.8 million likes, and 1.8 million comments within the first 24 hours. These are all the best achievements of the group compared to the previous products. Currently, this is also SM’s MV with the most comments of all time.
In the list of 5 MVs with the most views within the first 24 hours of SM, Don’t Fight The Feeling has just debuted at #4. Unfortunately, EXO’s new product is behind aespa’s Next Level (25.12 million views); NCT U’s Make A Wish (Birthday Song) (25.30 million views) and NCT DREAM’s Hot Sauce (34.29 million views).
On Hanteo, EXO’s special album sold 647,010 copies on the first day, breaking the record previously held by DON’T MESS UP MY TEMPO (November 2018) (404,721 copies). Therefore, this album officially entered the top 10 albums with the highest first-day sales on this chart at No. 6, ahead of BLACKPINK’s THE ALBUM (589,310 copies) at No.8.
However, if only considering SM’s products, EXO’s new album only has the 3rd highest first-day sales. The first 2 positions are the 2nd mini album Bambi (4/2021) by member Baekhyun himself (760,514 copies) and NCT DREAM’s first full album Hot Sauce (May 2021) (671,396 copies).
Currently, there is no official information about EXO’s special album promotion schedule this time. However, considering SM artists’ recent comebacks, it is likely that the group will perform the new song for the first time at The Stage (SM’s own show) and then promote it for 1 to 2 weeks at music shows.
