Celebrities who did “military service tricks” to continue their career but might have to stop working forever

Military service evasion is still a hot issue after famous people, such as rapper Ravi, actor Song Deok Ho, etc., were called out.

Ravi, a rapper from the idol group VIXX, shocked everyone when he was found to have evaded military service. Later, actor Song Deok Ho was also summoned by the investigative agency on charges of military service evasion.

On the 31st of last month, Bistus Entertainment officially announced, “Last summer, Song Deok Ho was consulted through a blog while searching for information about postponing enlistment. Due to his wrong judgment at that time, he received a Class 4 social service worker classification in an unfair way instead of a military service postponement, which was his first purpose. The actor is currently under police investigation and will be faithful in the remaining prosecution questionings.” As a result, Song Deok Ho dropped out of tvN’s new drama “Beneficial Fraud”, which is in the filming stage.

Song Deok Ho made his debut in Lee Chang Dong’s 2018 film “Burning” and has played various supporting and minor roles in movies and dramas. Last year, he also starred in Netflix’s original series “D.P.” about deserters.

It was reported that a gang of military service brokers was arrested at the end of last year on charges of helping healthy young men receive military service exemptions. As a result, the prosecution and the Military Manpower Administration then launched a large-scale joint investigation into suspicious professional sports players, high-ranking officials, and celebrities. Celebrities caught in the investigation were volleyball player Cho Jae Sung and rapper Ravi.

Celebrities and sports players are known to have committed such a crime due to the fear and anxiety of a career interruption. In other words, career interruption due to the forced long hiatus for military service is the main reason why they attempted military service evasion. It is because there is no guarantee that they will be able to actively engage in entertainment and sports activities again after getting discharged.

Earlier, Nafla, another artist from Ravi’s agency, was also caught by the police on suspicions of military service evasion. GROOVL1N, Nafla’s agency represented by Ravi, said on February 1st, “The prosecution conducted a search and seizure regarding the military exemption issue at the Seocho-gu Office on the 31st of last month, and Nafla was investigated in this regard”. In both the cases of Nafla and Ravi, the agency cautiously refused to express its position on the military service evasion issue in detail.

It is known that Nafla used to be investigated for marijuana smoking in 2019. At that time the prosecution dropped the charge considering that Nafle committed the crime for the first time. However, in 2020, he was sentenced to 10 months in prison and a two-year probation after getting caught smoking marijuana again. While serving as a social service worker in February 2021, Nafla was accused of trying to avoid mandatory military service by applying for delays 7 times with the excuse of receiving depression treatments.
