Additional revelation about “The Glory” director Ahn Gil Ho’s school violence allegation is spreading

On March 10th, netizen A posted an article on a community site for overseas Korean revealing that they were assaulted by PD Ahn Gil Ho, who directed Netflix’s series “The Glory”, in the Philippines in 1996.

According to A’s claims, PD Ahn, who was a third-year high school student at that time, dated A’s classmate, a female middle school student. Knowing that A and other classmates teased his girlfriend, PD Ahn gathered some senior students to assault A and his friends. A said, “There were around 10 older students including PD Ahn Gil Ho. That was when I started to get beaten”, adding “PD Ahn and his gang threatened us with things like ‘bring a knife’ and ‘squeeze them’.”

In the meantime, netizen B introduced themselves as a friend of A in another online community and mentioned the related suspicions. B said, “The content of the articles is true”, adding “The teases from B’s classmates were only at the level of making fun of her name. At the direction of PD Ahn, almost all of the students in our grade were beaten by senior students.”

Another netizen asked, “How was the level of the teases?”, adding “I think it’s important to determine whether it was just a light joke that friends could laugh off among themselves and PD Ahn overreacted, or whether it was something that would clearly make anyone angry.”

B replied, “It’s true that there was school violence. The part about teasing is really ambiguous. It seemed to be just a joke among friends where they could all laugh for fun and then forget about it”. They explained, “They made fun of her boyfriend’s name, too. They called him ‘Ahn Gil-eo-rae’ (which means, ‘It’s not so long in Korean)”.

In addition, B said, “Manila in the Philippines is not a big city, and at the time, immigrant communities mainly gathered in one church or cathedral, so we knew each other well. Even if we went to different schools, we could get to know each other through gatherings at the church or cathedral,” and added, “Ahn Gil Ho did not attend the same school as me, but after that incident, students in my grade got beaten a lot by senior students.”

However, some netizens are staying cautious regarding the authenticity of these revelations because they have not been confirmed yet.

Meanwhile, Netflix announced that they are checking the facts about PD Ahn’s school violence allegation.
