Won Bin and Kim Sae-ron’s 2010 film “The Man from Nowhere” to have a drama remake with a high possibility of being released on OTT platforms

The drama “The Man from Nowhere”, which is based on a movie of the same name, will be produced.

According to a report by OSEN on April 7th, it is confirmed that OPUS Pictures, the production company of the movie “The Man from Nowhere”, recently launched a drama project and was preparing for the production of a drama version of “The Man from Nowhere”.

The Man from Nowhere

Released in 2010, “The Man from Nowhere” (directed by Lee Jeong-beom, distributed by CJ ENM) is a crime-action film genre that depicts the process of Tae-sik (Won Bin), a former special agent who lost his wife and is running a pawnshop, trying to rescue So-mi (Kim Sae-ron), a girl living next door who suddenly disappeared. It was released in theaters in August of that year and became a box-office hit by attracting 6,179,525 moviegoers (based on data provided by the Korean Film Council).

Actor Won Bin emerged as a box-office guarantee through films, such as “The Man from Nowhere”, “Mother” (2009), “My Brother” (2004), “Taegukgi” (2004), “Guns & Talks” (2001), and dramas, including “Autumn in My Heart” (2000), “Tough Guy’s Love” (2000), “Kwangki” (1999), etc. As it is said that Won Bin is considering choices of work, attention is focused on the next film that he will present after “The Man from Nowhere”.

The Man from Nowhere

Kim Sae-ron, a child actor who made her debut in 2009 through the movie “A Brand New Life”, gained recognition after starring in “The Man from Nowhere”. At that time, Kim Sae-ron showed off her excellent ability to digest her character that was unlike a child actor, and emerged as a promising actress.

During an interview in 2017, Kim Sae-ron, who has already become an adult actress, said, “I feel very thankful to everyone who still remembers ‘The Man from Nowhere’ even though many years have passed”, adding, “A lot of people asked me ‘Hasn’t ‘A Man from Nowhere’ become my label?’, but I think it was such a good film. In the future, I will meet the viewers with work that can go beyond the popularity of ‘The Man from Nowhere’ with my acting. I want to make everyone remember the work that way. I don’t think I should forget about it quickly”

The Man from Nowhere

Since then, Kim Sae-ron has been cast as the main character in several movies, such as “The Neighbor” (2012), “Manhole” (2014), “A Girl at My Door” (2014), “Snowy Road” (2017), “The Villagers” (2018), etc.

Won Bin and Kim Sae-ron will not appear in the drama version of “The Man from Nowhere”. First of all, Kim Sae-ron’s age doesn’t match Somi’s anymore. Won Bin is also said to have no intention of appearing in this work again. Therefore, attention is being paid to which actors will be cast as the second Won Bin and Kim Sae-ron.

The production team is currently preparing for the drama and has not decided on the director yet. They are also considering the production method and the amount of the production cost.

However, it seems like “The Man from Nowhere” might possibly be released to the public through OTT platforms.
