The legal representative for actor Kim Soo Hyun has revealed new details surrounding the ongoing controversy involving YouTuber Kim Se Ui, claiming that individuals who were not originally included in their complaint have now reportedly been booked as criminal suspects during the police investigation.

Attorney Go Sang Rok, who represents Kim Soo Hyun, shared the update through posts uploaded on his YouTube community page on May 20 and 21. In the posts, he discussed the prosecution’s request for a pretrial detention warrant against YouTuber Kim Se Ui of the YouTube channel Garosero Research Institute.

The warrant request reportedly refers to a 32-page document that Kim Se Ui himself revealed during a livestream broadcast that same day.

According to attorney Go, Kim Soo Hyun and his agency Gold Medalist never filed a complaint against attorney Bu Ji Seok. However, Go pointed out that both attorney Bu Ji Seok and YouTuber Kwon Young Chan were listed as “suspects” within the arrest warrant request.

Go explained, “This appears to mean that during the investigation process, police recognized possible accomplice involvement between Kim Se Ui and these individuals and officially booked them as suspects.”

He further stated that it was “extremely unusual and shocking” for a lawyer representing suspects during an investigation to later become recognized as a possible accomplice and be converted into a suspect as well.

Attorney Bu Ji Seok previously held a joint press conference with Kim Se Ui on March 27, 2025, where they were accused of spreading false information.

During that press conference, Bu allegedly presented KakaoTalk messages that were not actually exchanged by Kim Soo Hyun and the late Kim Sae Ron, including messages such as “When can I hold you and sleep beside you?” while asserting they belonged to Kim Soo Hyun.

Attorney Go argued that many members of the public believed the claims because they assumed, “Surely a lawyer wouldn’t lie.”

According to Kim Soo Hyun’s side, attorney Bu was not included in the original complaint because there was initially no publicly confirmed evidence showing a direct conspiracy between the parties. However, they now believe investigators may have confirmed a cooperative relationship through the newly revealed arrest warrant request.

Go Sang Rok also referenced Bu Ji Seok’s past controversies in his statement.

Previously, attorney Bu reportedly received a one-month suspension from the Korean Bar Association after displaying false title advertisements on electronic billboards at clubs in Gangnam while dancing publicly.

Go further claimed that while challenging the disciplinary action through legal proceedings, Bu Ji Seok later held the controversial press conference with Kim Se Ui and allegedly returned to a nightclub afterward to celebrate while displaying footage from the press conference on large electronic screens.

For now, Kim Soo Hyun’s side says it is primarily focused on whether the court will approve the pretrial detention warrant requested against Kim Se Ui.

Attorney Go added that regarding other individuals including the late actress’s parents and aunt they would wait to see the results of the investigation before making further comments.

Meanwhile, Kim Se Ui claimed during a livestream broadcast the previous day that he had been preparing to investigate alleged sexual crime cases involving politicians in Vietnam. He argued that the prosecution’s detention warrant request was part of an attempt to obstruct his reporting activities.

Separately, YouTuber Kwon Young Chan, who was also identified as a suspect in the warrant request, told local media outlet Sports Kyunghyang that he had initially been investigated only as a witness. He claimed that although he was later booked as a suspect, after multiple rounds of questioning, he now understands he has once again been classified as a witness.

Kim Se Ui’s detention warrant hearing is scheduled to take place on May 26 at the Seoul Central District Court.
