The story of a 12-year-old kid who witnessed his father’s death at the age of 6, Dr. Oh Eun Young “The fear remains in his memory”
“My Golden Kids” drew regrets from viewers with the story of a boy who has trauma after witnessing his father pass away.
Channel A’s “My Golden Kids”, which aired on December 16th, revealed the story of “brother and sister who can’t sleep because of anxiety after losing their father”.
A mother who settled in Jeju 2 years ago and lived alone raising a 12-year-old son and 8-year-old daughter appeared on the show and revealed the daily routine of her family.
In the morning, the mother woke up her son and urged him to wash up quickly. However, even after her son washed up, the mother still sensed a bad smell from his bed and blanket. It turned out that her son unintentionally defecated on the blanket three years ago. The next day, the mother went to see the doctor, and her son was diagnosed with no physical problems.
The mother took her son to visit his father’s chamber at the funeral hall. She tearfully shared, “When my children were 6 and 8 years old, our family went to a restaurant downtown to eat. Standing up after finishing our meal, he collapsed and passed away the next day”, adding “His father died when he was only 6, and it was the first time I saw my son cried that much. I took him to take examination and consultation, and the doctor said that his heart has been closed since he was 6 years old”. Hearing that, Dr. Oh Eun Young said, “The fear of seeing a person close to him pass away will remain in the child’s memory for a really long time”.
After taking her son home from school, the mother asked, “Why did you break your friend’s glasses today?”, but her son didn’t answer. The mother confessed, “I’ve never heard him say curse words before, but his teacher told me that he used curse words and had violent behaviors”.
Later, the shocking result of the 12-year-old son’s sentence completion test was revealed. In the answer, he wrote, “I sometimes want to make an extreme choice”. Dr. Oh Eun Young said, “As he keeps asking ‘Why did they take away her kind father?’, he feels resentful and unfair. There is also anxiety due to the unpredictable situation.”
The inner thoughts of the son were also highlighted. He said, “Mom is pretty”, adding that mom is 100 points in his eyes. When asked about his feelings when seeing mom having a hard time, the kid said, “There were many times I wanted to help mom, when she was upset, and when she was sick”. In response to the question “Do you remember your dad?”, he burst into tears and said, “I don’t have many memories of that age, but I only remember what happened when dad passed away. He used to help me and play with me a lot”.
Taking out a photo of their happy moment with dad, the son said, “What if mom also leaves us? That’s what I’m worried about the most. I want to be a good son to my mom”.
After receiving advice from Dr. Oh Eun Young, the mother showed her son an old picture of his dad and said, “Dad is always beside us. If we stay happy, dad will be smiling right right next to us”.
