“The Marvels” director “I contacted Park Seo-joon after watching ‘Itaewon Class'”

Director Nia DaCosta, who directed the film “The Marvels”, shared her thoughts on collaborating with actor Park Seo-joon

On the morning of Nov 7th, the virtual press conference of “The Marvels” (directed by Nia DaCosta) was held online. During the event, director Nia DaCosta discussed various aspects of the film.

“The Marvels” depicts the story of three female superheroes, “Captain Marvel” Carol Danvers, Monica Rambeau and “Ms. Marvel” Kamala Khan, teaming up to fight against the villains. This film marks the first entry into the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) for director Nia DaCosta and actor Park Seo-joon, creating much anticipation.

Nia DaCosta had a long-standing interest in Korean content from a young age. She said, “When I was little, I was obsessed with Korean dramas and K-POP. My favorite works were ‘My Lovely Sam Soon’, ‘On Air’ and ‘Coffee Prince’. I loved these works and knew the actors who appeared in them.”

This background played a part in the casting of Park Seo-joon as Prince Yan. Nia DaCosta explained, “During the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, a friend recommended I watch ‘Itaewon Class’. That’s when Park Seo-joon caught my attention. I thought Park Seo-joon was a perfect fit for the character of Prince Yan. I contacted him first, and our collaboration went through.”

Nia DaCosta went on to recall her experience working with Park Seo-joon. She stated, “He’s a talented actor who brings great energy to the set. We had a joyful and happy time working together, and it was enriched by the love of many.

Meanwhile, “The Marvels” is set to be released on Nov 8th.
