Netflix will introduce the reality show with Netflix’s series “Squid Game” format in November

On September 22nd (local time), Netflix announced on its website the release of a reality show called “Squid Game: The Challenge” on November 22nd.

Netflix said, “‘Squid Game: The Challenge’ is coming later this fall, transforming the South Korean series into the biggest reality competition ever.”

They continued, “Though the reality version of Squid Game isn’t a matter of life or death, there’s still a lot on the line: 456 players will compete to win $4.56 million, the largest cash prize in reality television history”, adding “Through a series of games, each player will be pushed to their limits and forced to ask themselves just how far they’ll go to win, with opportunistic alliances, cutthroat strategies and timely betrayals to follow.”

The official trailer video released together with the announcement features scenes similar to the set in the drama “Squid Game”, starting with a large piggy bank full of cash, and the voice of the same host.

One contestant says, “4.56 million dollars? People do a whole lot worse for a whole lot less”. The Younghee doll of the game “Red light, green light” in the drama appears, followed by the scene where participants are rushing towards her.

This 10-episode reality show was produced by Studio Lambert, which created the popular American game show “The Traitors”.

However, US media outlets also pointed out that there had been several controversies over “Squid Game: The Challenge”. Some participants complained of fatigue and hypothermia due to the sudden freezing cold weather during the filming period in the UK last winter.

US entertainment media Variety also reported that participants did not receive any participation fees.
