Interview

“Queen of Tears” Park Sung-hoon “I almost considered changing my name to Jeon Jae-joon + I hope one day people will remember me by my real name”

He lost his name but reached a career high. This is the story of actor Park Sung-hoon (39), who is now being called "Yoon Eun-sung" following "Jeon Jae-joon"

tvN’s Saturday-Sunday drama “Queen of Tears” depicts the crisis and rekindling of love between Hong Hae-in (played by Kim Ji-won), a third-generation chaebol heiress of Queens Group, and Baek Hyun-woo (played by Kim Soo-hyun), the son of farmers from Yongdu-ri, and their three years of marriage. “Queen of Tears” concluded with a record-breaking viewership rating of 24.850%, the highest ever for a tvN drama.

Park Sung-hoon expressed his gratitude, “We filmed for almost a year. The atmosphere on set was great and the script was fun, so I had some expectations. I want to thank viewers for the love they showed. I’m happy and honored to have been a part of ‘Queen of Tears’.

Park Sung-hoon mentioned, “Coincidentally, the works where I played villains became very popular. Since Jeon Jae-joon and Yoon Eun-sung would inevitably be compared, I paid attention to my tone and styling. While Jae-joon had a rough look, I aimed for a more gentlemanly appearance for Eun-sung. I wanted Eun-sung to have a more threatening feel when angry, unlike Jae-joon.”

Viewers’ reaction to Park Sung-hoon’s vivid portrayal of villains has been intense. Park Sung-hoon revealed, “I get a lot of comments and messages on SNS, including various profanities and challenges like ‘Get lost’ and ‘Fight me’.

However, he added, “I don’t feel upset or hurt because it’s natural for a villain to be hated. I think of it as people showing interest because they love the dramas, which makes me happy.”

Park Sung-hoon became widely recognized for his role as Jeon Jae-joon in “The Glory“. There was even an incident on the set of “Queen of Tears” where people called him by that character’s name. He joked, “I almost considered changing my name to Jeon Jae-joon.

He confessed, “People sometimes call me ‘Park Jae-joon’ (Park Sung-hoon + Jeon Jae-joon) or ‘Yoon Jae-hoon’ (Yoon Eun-sung + Jeon Jae-joon + Park Sung-hoon). I’m a bit confused with all these names. But it feels good that when people think of Jeon Jae-joon, they think of Park Sung-hoon. I hope one day people will remember me by my real name, Park Sung-hoon, over my characters’ names.”
