Jeongyeon’s Basic Information
Jeongyeon was born in Jeonja-dong-gu, Jangan, Suwon, Gyeonggi, South Korea. She legally changed her name to Jeongyeon in 3rd grade after being teased due to her name sounding too boyish.
Jeongyeon trained to become a singer from a young age, and also learnt to play the trumpet and saxophone.
The female idol participated in JYP Entertainment’s 6th Open Audition in 2010. She was originally supposed to debut under a girl group named 6MIX alongside Nayeon, Jihyo and Sana, but the project was canceled.
Jeongyeon’s Career
Before TWICE, Jeongyeon appeared in the music videos of GOT7’s “Girls Girls Girls”, Jun. K’s “No Love”, and miss A’s “Only You”.
In 2015, she appeared on the survival program “SIXTEEN”and finished in 3rd place, thus officially becoming a member of TWICE.

In 2016, Jeongyeon became an MC for the music program “Inkigayo” alongside her sister, actress Gong Seungyeon. She resumed this role until early 2017.
In 2020, it was announced that Jeongyeon would temporarily halt activities due to anxiety. In 2021, Jeongyeon had to take another hiatus due to panic and psychological anxiety. The female idol is also known to suffer from a herniated disk injury.

Jeongyeon’s father is Yoo Chang-joon, a famous Korean traditional chef. Jeongyeon has 2 older sisters, one of whom is actress Gong Seungyeon.
It is known that Jeongyeon passed the auditions for both JYP and SM, but ultimately chose the former.
Jeongyeon almost became the leader of TWICE as the selection process was made via anonymous voting and she received the 2nd most votes.
Jeongyeon is known to be clean and neat, she is unafraid of bugs, and so would be in charge of catching them in the dorm.
