Former Saenuri Party member Jeon Yeo-ok criticized Lee Hyo-ri and Lee Sang-soon for opening a cafe in Jeju, saying, “Do they have to run a coffee shop?”
Politician Jeon said on Facebook on July 3rd, “This morning’s hot news is definitely the opening of a coffee shop in Jeju by Lee Hyo-ri and Lee Sang-soon. As soon as it was opened at 9 o’clock in Jeju, a city with a population of 600,000, people lined up 100m. (It was very hot yesterday, wasn’t it?) Eventually, they wrote ‘The shop closes as we ran out of coffee ingredients’ after only 12 minutes. News is news.”
She continued, “Lee Sang-soon himself made coffee, and Lee Hyo-ri took pictures with customers? That is a huge competitive advantage. It will take a toll on nearby coffee shops. I thought, ‘Why are these people running a coffee shop?’ Coffee shops have a lower barrier to entry than other occupations, such as Korean restaurants. That is why coffee shops exist even in alleys of Jeju Island. Opening a coffee shop for Lee Hyo-ri and Lee Sang-soon is like a hobby because of their ‘love for coffee’, ‘broadcast’ and ‘music’.”
“But for most coffee shop owners, it’s to make a living. When a chaebol daughter opened a bakery, people criticized her and accused her of threatening the alley bakery business area.
