Namkoong Min Mentions Past Film ‘A Dirty Carnival’, “Didn’t Like It But Screen Time Was The Second After Jo In-sung”

The January 6th broadcast of JTBC’s entertainment program “Knowing Bros” welcomed guests Namkoong Min and Ahn Eun-jin, who received huge love for their acting performances in MBC’s popular drama “My Dearest” last year.

Namkoong Min talked about his ability to pull off different characters. He said, “I’ve tried all kinds of hairstyles, so bald and long hair are the only ones left. I’m not greedy for any specific roles. If the script is interesting, I will love my character. As long as the plot is good, I’m happy to play the role and complete a good work with the director and other actors”.

When the movie “A Dirty Carnival” with Namkoong Min’s role was brought up, “Knowing Bros” cast altogether said, “He’s trash”. Namkoong Min shared, “When I received the casting offer, I told my CEO, ‘I don’t want to play that role. The character is not interesting at all”, revealing that he actually wanted the character played by actor Jin Goo.

According to the actor, at that time, his CEO mentioned screen time, asking “Who appears the most after Jo In-sung?”. Namkoong Min commented, “So I decided that the attractive points of my character were his cowardice and pathetic appearance.”

According to Ahn Eun-jin, she wore a lot of elaborate makeup in the drama “My Dearest”. “Since the character goes through a war in the drama and has to go around in disguise, it wouldn’t be appropriate if she looks okay. I wanted to show something that makes people think, ‘She must have suffered a lot during that time’”, the actress said.

Then, when asked if her real personality is similar, Ahn Eun-jin responded, “As time goes on, Gil-chae’s (Ahn Eun-jin’s character in ‘My Dearest’) personality changes. It becomes similar (with me) then. In the beginning, she’s like a fox with 99 tails. She flirts with men, and that was difficult (to act)”.
